I'm not familiar with Vista, but one requirement under XP was that the XP drivers had to be used. So if the adapter came with some software and drivers on a CD, those couldn't be used. Had to just plug the adapter in and have Windows use it's drivers.

With a built in card it might be tougher, but possibly that issue carried over. What driver is running for the built in bluetooth?

Thats the problem I just found! I cant find the bluetooth drivers anywhwere on here and yes its a built in card so you would assume that it would come with drivers right? My laptop is only about 8 months.

It's not about coming with built-in drivers. Those could be from the laptop manufacturer. What you need, is the Microsoft driver. You have to use the Microsoft driver for your bluetooth device, not the manufacturer's driver.

It depends on what type of bluetooth device it is. Microsoft may not have a driver for it. Try uninstalling the bluetooth device, then reboot the laptop and when it detects the bluetooth, point it to the Windows driver directory to see if it will use the Windows driver.

I understand that it's built-in, however; 99% of built-in cards use the manufacturer's driver. Look in the device manager to find out what kind of card it is and then contact Microsoft to see if their driver will support it.

Then you need to contact the manufacturer. The bluetooth may be an option and just because you have a button, doesn't mean it's there.
