In BlackBerry Enterprise Server Version 4.1 SP4, if you installed the BlackBerry Enterprise Server in a Microsoft Exchange 2007
environment, the installation process did not complete successfully if the Microsoft Exchange server did not include public
folders.
In BlackBerry Enterprise Server Version 4.1 SP4 MR4 and later, this issue is resolved when you create the public folder database.

No red bull, just a smokey treat and some crappy tea today.

by the way check this kb :
KB05270
one of the cause of this failure is :
Cause 5
The Exchange Server's Public Folder database is not mounted.
Resolution
Mount the Public Folder database on the Microsoft Exchange Server.
so how public folder is involved in the synchronization process??

I would imagine that's how Exchange publishes Free/Busy info. So it could very well be interacting with Public Folders, just very specific Public Folders.

It does explain it in the doc and it does make sense.
BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.1.5 obtains free/busy data from the Schedule+Free/Busy Public Folder on the Microsoft Exchange Server. When Microsoft® Outlook® 2007 and Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 are running in native mode, they use the Availability Service (via Auto Discover) to determine free/busy data, so there is no Public Folder for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to find.
The cause section explains exactly why you need the PFs there. If that doc doesn't make sense to you, you need to find someone else in your organisation to admin the BES. It's very clear mate and we have all wasted a lot of time with you repeating ourselves, when you either can't be bothered to read the doc properly or are not at the correct skill level for this type of work. Bye.

KB15582
Note: BlackBerry smartphone users will not be able to use the Calendar lookup function on their BlackBerry smartphones. Public folders are required for this feature to work.
So it is just a work around. whats the point.

And we keep on telling you. Seriously, how does the above directly from RIM not answer you? READ THE WORDS. As I have said before if you don't understand that statement from RIM you need to get someone else to admin the BES, this is very basic stuff my friend.

OP, the question above has been answered correctly and thoroughly given the current versions of BES available (4.1.x latest).
Please let me know whether you now understand what has been posted. This thread appears to have little left to be added.
