Default Upgrade to BES 4.1 - new enterprise activation?

Please Login to Remove!

Hello all,

our company wants to upgrade very soon to BES 4.1 (currently using BES 4.0.4 for Lotus Domino). A couple of days ago we heard from several corners that this upgrade will make new enterprise activation necessary for all users on this BES?

Is this just a rumor or are there a few real points about this issue?

Best Regards
Alex / Sunny

Yes and no... if you are upgrading your BES using a cutover process, then you need to reactivate all your users IF AND ONLY IF you changed the IBM Lotus Domino server name.... A lot of people actually cutover to a new computer (may be in anticipation of more system resources usage for BES 4.1???) and that is when users stop getting email messages and they realized that they all needed to be re-activated.

The 4.1 Upgrade guide has a good chapter 6 describing this. Open up the PDF file and search for "reactivate" and you shall see the light

Cheers!

We upgraded our 4.0 to 4.1 using the live process after normal production hours. It was largely transparent to users and required no new Enterprise Activation. We are an Exchange 2003 shop, however...

in-place upgrade i.e. installing new software over the old one on the very SAME server = no need to reactivate handhelds Same for Exchange, Domino or Groupwise...

We were planning on incorporating the 4.1 upgrade with server life cycle, so your saying if you change the physical server hosting the non-database components of the BES it we'll need to re-activate all the handhelds? Other than the hardware, nothing will change, server names the same, same DB etc.
