Default Should I upgrade to BES express 5

Please Login to Remove!

Hi

Currently running Blackberry Enterprise Server 4.1 , and was offered BES express 5 free upgrade with my service provider.

Sound like a good deal, but not sure if I'm going to be faced with loads of problems moving across. Can anyone advise if BES 5 express is stable

Also, will I be lossing an features moving to an express version?

Thanks

What is better:

HTML emails

OOF works

more functional calendar support

Public folder access for contacts

Remote email search

Remote file access

BIS or BES plan will work on it.

BES express 5 is FREE

Up to 75 users when installed on exchange server.

Web based management

WEB desktop manager

What you lose:

fancier It polices

Simple manager interface

Money spent on CALs (sell them off, there will be people that want them)

There is no direct inplace upgrade to BES Express.

There might be more but off the top with out my tea yet.

Please remember that for most of the new features of BESX5 you also need to upgrade your existing devices to the 5.0 device OS.

Thanks guys for the great info.

What is OOF?

Currently running sbs2003. Guessing it fine for this?

Also , is there a monitoring tool to view user activity for web-browsing / emails etc?

Lastly, can you confirm if I can add users free to the BES server , without buying any user cals? What's the catch?

Free up to 2000 users.

No catch really unless you need more complex IT policies or something else that it can knot do.

Then you need BES.

Folks, a couple things here. Not sure what your service provider actually said to you about a free upgrade... Couple of things wrong there. The service provider isn't giving the BES Express away, RIM is. And it's free to anyone. Also, there isn't an 'upgrade' to BES Express. You must install a fresh installation and then migrate your devices to the new Express BB Domain. This will most likely involve a wipe of the device and re-activation.

And Knotty, the CALS are not limited to 2000 users. For sure!!

Did some digging. Yep yer right.

Only 2000 users per BES X 5 server though.

Heard you can share the DB too, so maybe thats how you can get to 10k
