Anybody testing VZ Navigator?
Please Login to Remove!
I don't want anyone to violate their NDA (yes I do), but if anyone is or has been testing VZ Navigator for Blackberry, I'd love to hear a little bit about its feature set. My wife has VZN on her LG Chocolate, and it's pretty lacking compared to Telenav on Blackberry. Primarily, VZN does not have real time traffic updates and rerouting around traffic jams as Telenav does, and its display just shows turn arrows when in nav mode, instead of Telenav's 3D dynamic maps.
And of course, everyone wants to know when VZW will make Navigator available!

Hopefully with the release of the Pearl 2 (8130), VZNav will be available to us 8830 owners.
Rumored around Novemberish

OK, I really, really really don't want to restart the GPS flame thread, but...
VZW has GPS disabled on the 8830 and they don't have VZNavigator available?!?!?!

Simple answer is yes, they disabled GPS on all their Blackberry's and will enable it when they release VZNavigator.

Enable GPS for VZNavigator usage or enable GPS for VZNavigator and whatever you want?

I've heard that it will be Nov 8th and a patch will be available for 8830 users. This from the HoFo. My subscription to Telenav renews on the 7th of each month.

From what I understand, VZNavigator does not use true (satellite) gps. It uses cell phone towers to locate your position. One thing good about it is you can use it indoors. The bad thing is you can't use 3rd party gps apps. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The Real Questions
But will it work in Europe? Will it work in South America? Can I get Lat and Long with it? Inquiring minds want to know.

I have InfoSpace Find It on my VZW 8703e and it works, although it's fairly slow and isn't completely accurate - probably because it is basing my location on a cell phone tower. So I guess I am partially correcting you...

A few people have reported that VZN is listed on the Blackberry browser start page. For those that have changed their start page it is: http://solutions.vzwshop.com/vzwstart/bb8830
Navigate there from your BB browser. It is listed as coming soon. As least it is "confirmed" now from VZW.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.8 [en] (Windows NT 5.0; U) BlackBerry8830/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)
That's exacty why I was searching for a thread like this. I just noticed that "coming soon" message today. It pays to "search" .
Thank guys.

I've tried a few times to use this link from my BB, but I keep getting a 404 error. Am I missing something?

Open up your browser. Click on the BB button and select Bookmarks. Select Blackberry Bookmarks, and you'll see a bookmark for solutions.vzw . . . Select it and it will take you to the BB8830 home page for VZW, where you'll see VZNavigator.

I changed my homepage to MSN, but it still showed the 8830 start page as a bookmarked page - not the home page. I can only go by my experience, and I did what I posted and saw the page bookmarked. I had tried typing it in manually, and got the 404 error as well, but it came up ok with the bookmark. Strange.
