Default How can you Search Contacts -- within the "Notes" Field?

Please Login to Remove!

I have quite a few (several thousand) contacts in my BlackBerry. I often include detailed information in the "Notes" field of each contact.

Later on I may want to locate that record -- based on a term/word that I have included in that "Notes" field.

I have tried to "search" -- using a specific term/word -- that is present in the "Notes" field of several of my contact records. I used the separate "Search" app that comes on the BlackBerry and has its own Icon. I made sure to select "contacts" before invoking the search.

It does not seem to "find" the desired contacts records.

I wonder if any of you have found a "solution" to this search difficulty. Possibly there is a 3rd party app that I can purchase and download -- to gain this search function. If so -- please advise.

Thanks for any help or suggestions you can provide.

You can search contacts from the home screen. While on the home screen, press S to bring up the search template, make sure you have Contacts checked (only Messages is checked by default), enter your search term(s), and use the Menu button to select Search.

Thanks, rambo47, for the suggestion -- but it does not seem to work on my Bold -- for searching for terms/words that are ONLY in the "Notes" field within my contacts.

Could I ask you to try this -- on your Blackberry?

- Create a new contact
- in the "Notes" field -- enter only the words "CMA member"

Save the new contact

Now go back and try and search -- using ONLY the word/term -- CMA

Does your BlackBerry locate that one contact and display it?

Thanks for takign the time to try this.

Yes it does. I entered the name Boy Howdy and only CMA Member in the notes field. When I ran the search it gave me only one contact match. I clicked on it and Boy Howdy was displayed. The only thing in my search was Cma. I purposely used different cases for the letters.

Are you checking the box for Contacts in the search screen? It's set to Messages only by default.

I just noticed you're profile says you have the 8700. This feature might not be available on your device as it's getting old.

Thanks, rambo47, for running the test. I guess there must be something unique with my Bold 9000.

When I have the full screen -- and press S -- the digit "4" appears as the first digit of a phone number. I thought that might just relate to a "short cut option" on my unit that was a little different from yours.

Instead of the "S" bringing up Search automatically -- I go to the "Search icon" (image of magnifying glass) that is on the main screen and enter the search term/word (such as CMA) in the field there for Text.

I de-selected the Messages check mark (that was there by default) -- and selected the Contacts (and the check mark appeared in the box beside the Contacts.) I then pressed the Menu button -- and selected "Search."

It does not find any record!

My Bold is running OS v4.6.0.282 (Platform 4.0.0.235)

Again -- thanks for trying to help me solve the problem.

This may be a feature added in OS 5, which is available for the Bold 9000.
