Hello.

Apologies for this being my first post, but I'm hoping someone can help.

My son has been messing about with the firewall settings on this Curve 8520. The app FourSquare has been in use for over a week without a problem, but after turning the firewall on and restarting the phone, the following error has appeared:-

"The application FourSquare has attempted to open a connection to a location inside the firewall and outside the firewall which is not allowed by your IT policy."

Everytime I click OK to remove the message, it comes straight back up and I can get no further.

I've tried connecting the device to the PC, but after the PCs asks for the password the connection does not appear.

Can anyone tell me how to:

1) bypass the error message, or
2) make it connect to the PC with the error message in place, or
3) factory restore the device without doing it from the device

Any help gratefully received. I've been a BB user for years so it's not a matter of daft parent can't make it work

I'm not clear on what you are trying to do. If you want to continue using FourSquare (and some other apps you may or may not be using), you will need to turn off the firewall. Otherwise, you will continue to get the message and be unable to use the app.

If you can't access options to disable the fire wall, reboot the device (or may be necessary to do a hard reset, don't know), then disable the firewall.

You will not be able to bypass the error message and use the app with the firewall on.

my friend just had the same problem on her BB Curve.

here is how i fixed it for her:

press and hold "alt" then press "enter"... this should get rid of the notification screen for about 2-3 seconds.
as soon as the notification screen is gone, you should be able to move around with the track ball.
keep on repeating the "alt + enter" every time the notification comes up,
and navigate your way to:
Options ---- Security Options ---- Firewall ---- Status keep it disabled

save on your exit and all should be fine.
