Default treo 700 w

My company is thinking of moving from the BB 8700c to altells treo 700w. I'm concerned with email. Will we be able to get instant messages or emails like the blackberry. If not the BB still might have a fighting chance. What are some other pros and cons about the treo. The salesmans pitch is the treos broadband speed.

I hope they talk to people who use the devices and get their opinions!

Treo's are Windows devices and prone to random reboots, data deletions, hardware quality issues, and other such problems. The BB OS is about bullet proof. It works. It ain't broke. And it doesn't require fixing.

I had 3 Treo 600s and a 650 and they were all crapola. Switched to the BB and never regretted it.

Email is about automatic on the BB. If you are on BES, you can get it almost instantly. Not sure how the Treo is set up, but when I had mine, the best I could do was every 15 minutes. There is a Blackberry Connect for it however. Perhaps some of the gurus here can help. But this being a BB forum, I doubt that you will get many telling you to switch.

One point however, I really don't see the need to get your email instantaneously as some people desire. I guess it has to be that if technology allows it, that is the way it has to be.

Will you be with the same carrier? If so, speed really isn't an issue.

One thing to keep in mind is that speed on a cell device is dependent on many things, such as your connection, the processor in the device, and memory available, among other things. It is nothing at all like the speed you get on a laptop with DSL/Cable/T-1.

EDGE speeds on GSM networks (Cingular/T-Mobile) run from between 40-235 kbps with the average being 50-90 kbps, only a bit faster than dial-up. EV-DO on the CDMA networks (Sprint and Verizon) run from about 750 kbps to 1.2 mbps. 3G on GSM is said to be about 1-2 mbps, but it will be awhile before it gets built out to make it as available as EV-DO.

Even if Alltel is offering fire-sale pricing, don't bother with the 700W due to its extremely limited available memory which translates to virtually non-existant document handling. If your company is determined, and already decided on the WM platform, at least pony up for the 700WX (2x the 700's memory), if available.

What use for mobile broadband does your company have? Is Cingular's HSDPA not available where your company does business?

The display on the Treo 700w is 320×280 as with the Blackberry. The Blackberry has much more colors and is a better device.

If you really cared if you had a stable, push-capable handheldxxx8230; youxxx8217;d like the blackberry. due to work-place sabotage most buisnesses (good ones anyway) donxxx8217;t allow camera phones, thus blackberry has omitted it from their products.

It might be more of a level playing field if they were moving to something like Good Mobile Messaging...

Not sure what the Windows Treos are like, but I have just got rid of my Palm OS Treo 650 and am very pleased with the stability of the pearl in comparison.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8100/4.2.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

Had several WM devices, Palm devices and now BB devices. In my experience (and this is just my experience). BB is the most stable and reliable platform.
