Default Change my SIM card phone number?

Please Login to Remove!

I have ported my Alltel phone number to my Blackberry.

The phone number that displays on the phone is my old number.
When I go to the SIM Card selection in the Options menu, it gives me the option to edit my SIM phone number (which shows the old ATT number). But, when I change the number, I get a message saying, "Denied access to SIM."

I realize this is more of a pet peeve than a real problem, but does anyone have an idea on how I can change this?

Exactly what are you trying to do? the # displayed is your phone number. if you want a new number call your provider.

The Options --> SIM Card menu has an "Edit SIM Phone Number" command, but I think it refers to the SIM ID displayed in that entry.

Thinking again, it says "Phone Number", so that is supposed to be the phone number.
Is a user allowed to change it?

This is just a pet peeve of mine.
I ported my number to my Blackberry (no, I dont want a new number, Nextel User), and the old ATT number is displayed. The number comes from the SIM card, and I wanted to edit it to my new number.
The OS does not allow me to do this (see above post).
Was just wondering if anyone knew of a way to do this.

I am having the same problem. I had my 8175 number on my Blackberry with Nextel for a while, and I just ported over my 5555 home number to my Nextel.

Now when I click on Phone, it shows "My Phone #" as 8175 still. If I go to Options/SIM, it shows the 8175 there also without an option to change it. I called tier 1/2 @ nextel and they have no idea why it doesn't change along with the number in the system.

If anyone has a way to edit the phone # directly on the SIM, that might solve the problem.

I don't know if this will help anyone, but I just switched from a 7510 to a 7520 (Nextel), and had the same problem...the support tech said that the SIM card should automatically update itself with the correct phone # once it receives a call...so she called my blackberry (I answered to complete the connection, not "ignore")...once I hung up, the SIM card was showing my correct phone #...

To fix our phone number display problems with TMobile, we just go to Options --> SIM Card --> Edit SIM Phone Number, type it in, hit enter. and do a ALT-CAP-DEL and it shows up just fine, however for Cingular, we always have to call them to do an "Over the air Activation", where they send some sort of code to the BlackBerry and, voila, the phone number displays properly. Cingular sets their SIM's as read only or something, so only this "Over the Air Activation" can set this, the problem is that the "Over the Air Activation" doesn't work perfectly, so sometimes you have to keep calling them each day to try it again. For our Verizon BlackBerries, they've always been correct after dialing the *22899 thing.

The other vendors we use in the world doesn't seem to send down the phone number, but we're able to manually type it in to the SIM Card, like TMobile, so we're relatively happy, just the pain of keeping to remind users to help us set it, so it looks nice from the BES Manager

Really? It never came down. That's strange. Did you get any error messages on your phone at all? Sometimes we've seen a "write error" occur and then Cingular sent us a new SIM card to move it to, etc.

I should elaborate. It is an AT&T Wireless branded 7230 with a AT&T Wireless Sim Card. The folks at Cingular including the CS reps in the "wireless devices" cubicles claim that it should not make a difference, an OTA will solve the issue. But it did not.

Sometimes you have to have them do the OTA over again until it's finally though. Basically if it doesn't work within a few hours, I don't think it'll work at all. After about 4 hours or so, I ask the users to pop out the battery and put it back in, if it doesn't show up, we just call their level 2 guys to send it again. Usually when it works, it's pretty immediately, but of course they keep giving you the jazz on how this takes a few hours, so no problem, just keep opening up at ticket and tell them to send the Over the Air Activation. Only a few minutes of our times because we've got it down to an exact script of what we tell the people on the other end, eventually it worked
