Default Reconnecting To Laptop Safe?

Please Login to Remove!

Over the past few days, my laptop has been in the shop to have a trojan virus removed. I will be getting it back tomorrow, but am wondering if it is safe to connect my phone back to it.
I know that Blackberrys don't catch viruses, but could they carry one, in a picture or music file? If so, how would I know because running a competent scan would require hooking it back up to my laptop.

Viruses and Trojans are generally spread via attachments or URLs, so it would be possible that if such a file was on the BB, it could be sent tot he laptop, however, it would also take some interaction on your part such as opening the file or attachment or clicking on a link.

In any case, you should have a really good anti-virus program on your PC that can detect those sorts of things. Personally, on my PCs, I use ESET cybersecurity. Kaspersky is also very highly rated. IMHO, Norton and McAfee take too much overhead and don't do nearly as good a job as the other two.

Thanks.
I have had my doubts about McAfee for awhile now, as it is the one I have. It updates itself daily and all, but for some reason I have had doubts about it lately, even before this event. I guess because it's the only one I've had since I've owned computers, I've become accustomed to it. I also have the site advisor, but when I'm tethered on line through my phone, it does not work (I'm on edge with my 8900), and I believe that's when I was infected (though I wasn't the one using it at the time either).
Thanks again for the info. Might just be time to make a switch.

If it was something that replicates itself to or hides itself on other drives or media (remember even back so far as the floppy disk days) and the BlackBerry was ever connected to the computer with mass storage mode enabled, then I would say it's possible the micro SD could be infected and should be treated just as you would a thumb drive or external hard drive that was at risk at the time of infection.
