Default Verizon's 29.99 Email+Web for BlackBerry--Usage Limited?

Please Login to Remove!

Just switched over from my old carrier to verizon and I wanted to get a Blackberry, I love playing with my dad's.

I'm mulling over their 29.99 vs 44.99 plans for BlackBerry Email and Web.

I know the 29.99 has a 5GB limit but honestly I've never worked with anything except totally unlimited data before so I'm not sure what I can and can't get away with.

Some of the ToS says that you can't stream videos, webcasts, etc on the 29.99 plan ... fine, I'm not looking to pirate DVDs on the thing. But am I going to be getting myself in trouble if I go to websites with animation (is Flash animation supported at all? :/), websites with a fair amounts of graphics, or watch YouTube? :/ That would suck.

Does anybody else use this plan from verizon? What do you use it for? Just email and text sites/forums/message boards? Are you able at all to watch short youtube vids or access images/pictures on a regular basis (let's say daily)?

I really don't think you'll have a problem with going over. I used to have an air card with Verizon and with moderate to heavy use I never went over. In fact, the most I ever used was a little over 3gb when my cable internet service went down and that's all I had for internet at home. Since it was stolen (aircard) I've been using my BB as a tethered modem and have not gone over 2gb in a month. I use it off and on all day out in the field. Mainly work stuff, emails but the occasional goof offs like this site as well as other forums I vist that all have these animated ads etc.

So, like I said, I doubt you'd go over on the handheld itself. In fact, my buddy has a Storm and he watches youtube clips all day long, web surfs etc and he's never gone over or been reprimanded by VZW.

EDIT: Forgot to add that I use Podtrapper on my BB and I download two podcasts (talk radio) everyday. Each one has three audio files of about 12-15mb for each hour or file. I do this everyday M-F and have for about six months without going over being reprimanded by VZW. Also use/used iheart radio, slacker etc without worrying about going over.

So, to make a long story short, don't worry about it...;)

On the homefront, we're long-term VZW subscribers and my older kids have LG Voyagers and we're due for an upgrade, and my daughter wanted to try a Blackberry Curve. She is a heavy voice and txt user and not much on the data end, so its not an ideal fit, but who knows? She might change her habits if she had a Blackberry. But we'd have to add, at a minimum, the $29.99 plan on top of what we're already paying. I inquired with the rep about trying to work something out, maybe add another BB, some other sort of data/voice bundle, take the BB's out of the family package. . . . but no go no how. The Blackberry is making real inroads if its reaching my daughter's demographic. I know it would be a more stable and sturdy device than the flashy, balky and always breaking LG's, but VZW is working against itself with this kind of price disincentive.

Only difference between the 29.99 plan and the more expensive is the more expensive one allows you to activate the BB on a BES, while the 29.99 is cheaper and gives you unlimited data with a 5GB cap.. But unless you tether it will be really hard to hit the cap.
