So, started working at a new company today. They don't have a BES and I hate using redirector since it obviously dosn't work when my laptop isn't up and running. The school (I work for a univeristy) does have web based outlook (http://mail.schoolname.edu). I've been trying to get this setup through the t-mobile BIS site with no luck. Keeps telling me they can't reach the server (even though I can go right to the web site on my browser). Any suggestions?

I think BIS requires pop, as in pop email server access, however I'm not sure how you specifiy ssaid pop server. I don't see anywhere via internet email activation to do that, it just assks for emali and password...

Maybe using the domain part of the emali address, it queries dns for the mail server handling your emails and assumes that server has pop...

Becuase of spam and lots of other problems some Universities and Colleges block
POP3 and/or IMAP behind the firewall or all together. This prevents spam relays and a host of other problems. Search your schools IT website and/or take one of the admins out to lunch if you really want to know what their setup is....

Ask if the'll fwd copies of your email to your BB mail account.

dude, yahoo mail. thats all i have to say!

ive been a happily paying customers of their for yahoo plus cuz i like it so much!

anywho, with yahoo mail i collaborate all my school's email, and two other addresses. they are all forwarded to my yahoo mail account, except for one that doesnt have forwarding, so yahoo is setup to pull from that account via pop mail.

then via BIS i setup my berry to use my main @yahoo email and all my email from other places goes to my berry BUT it shows which address is was sent to by the sending party so i know if it was sent to school, work, etc.

i then also setup my berry with my other email accounts so when i send outgoing mail it can look like its from whichever account i want it to.

and the best part is that when i send email, it syncs with yahoo and saves a copy in my "sent" folder.

so i recommend yahoo for on-the-go mail syncing if you dont have outlook


btw. yahoo also has an online contact manager, notepad and calendar. i havent played with those but im sure theres a way to sync those too with ur berry and then uve pretty much replaced outlook altogether

If you can't get OWA working and you don't want to use redirector, you can set up rules in Outlook (which are stored on the server and do not require you leave your PC running) to redirect a copy of inbound mails to your tmobile.blackberry.net address. You can also set up that address to look like it came from your Outlook account when you send mail from it.

Set your mail server as https://mail.schoolname.edu/exchange with the rest of your info (UserID & PassW). I use it in that way and works perfect. Don't forget the s in the http, the exchange web access works under a secure protocol.

I have the same set up at my law school, and it works great.

I found the key was copying the URL exactly when my OWA mailbox loaded. Including the S after http and exchange at the end. I'm willing to bet it'll work if you follow those steps.

Also, my username looks something like:

schoolnet\specialk

This works just fine in the BIS username field.

DUDE!! You rock!!! Spent 1 hour with t-mobile tech support and they couldn't figure it out. I love this site!!!

I have a similar problem, but I can't get it to work. I copy pasted the url in the mail server field, my email address is ok, my account is whatever is before the @ in my email address, and my userID is nt_sss\useraccount.

I need a secureID to access my mail, could this cause the problem?

Is this done through POP/IMAP settings? Or through the Outlook settings?

When I try to set it up, I get 'Cannot establish connection to server'. However, I can get to just fine with the browser.

Any thoughts?

You choose the setting that says something like, "I can retrieve my mail through the web with OWA or Lotus Domino"

I did that but it says 'cannot establish connection with server'. Yet, browser to it works just fine.

I just checked my settings to make sure. I'll paste them below:

Under the general tab:

email account:

userid: schoolnet\specialk

signature: blank

Under advanced tab:
server: http://exchange.school.edu/exchange
e-mail account: specialk

I don't know if this would make a difference, but some OWA require you to enter your username first, then log in with a userid/password. I don't know if that'll work, but I could be wrong.

In the account field, try entering your entire email address, instead of what is before the @.

Excellent!

The number of ways to configure OWA are endless, and yours is just one of them. For mine, I have to put "domain\userid", where "userid" is my employee number, not my email prefix which is firstname.lastname.
