Default Security Issue (Remotely Controled)

Please Login to Remove!

Hello All,

I am new to this forum so I appologize if this is in the wrong section.

Over the past year my life has been turned inside out due to compromised blackberry devices. The problem is that my device is being remotely accessed messages of a sensitive nature are being deleted, sent to a third party (who has also brought this to my attention), live conversations with numberous parties (who do not have previous knowledge of each other or connections through common circles) have been recorded and sent to a third party. Also the device contacts have been manipulated, errased and I have recieved threatening messages logged as contacts in the contacts section, and also in the owner information screen for when i turn on the phone, lastly the pass word has been reset so I could not gain access to the unit. The problem has happend over a year following me with fido as my carrier while using the blackberry pearl, and then with wind mobile while using the Bold 9700.

After switching phone companies I used a different number and did not port my number or contacts over everything was from scratch, I hadn't even connected the device to the computer. However, I was still violated. I have looked at the forums and to third party software and have gotten zero relief from the afflictions of these attacts. I realize that some may think this is "impossible" or at least highly unlikely but i reassure you I keep my device in a very secure enviornment when it is not in use one of my devices I actually keep in sight of video servalance to ensure there is nobody physically tampering with the device. This is serious.

I have involved RIM (who are now pouring over my event logs), the local law enforcement, and wind mobile. As Fido has dismissed my security breach as IMPOSSIBLE. I am open to doing what ever it takes to rid myself of this issue. Providing somebody can give me proven results I would even be willing to reward the individual.

Does all of this happen with only one email account, or does this occur on multiple accounts?

Default security threat continued

The 2 devices did not have email configured. They both had bbm configured but the first one (the pearl from fido) currently has the data blocked at the service provider level. Blocking the data has had no effect against stoping these acts.

any ideas?

Click Options (the little wrench icon)>Applications and look for any apps you don't recognize and delete them. It sounds to me like someone is slipping snoopware onto your Berry. I saw a case like this on TV where this lady's ex had somehow put snoopware on her BlackBerry and it was doing stuff like what you mention.

I tried going through the logs it was actually one of the first things recommended by RIM and S Mobile Systems (a third party anti-virus manufacture). I have not seen anything out of the blue.

Please keep the suggestions coming i'm sure there is an answer out there some where!

Are these personal devices or are you on a BES?

If you switched numbers, devices, and carriers, and didn't use the switch device wizard or backup/restore, I don't see how the new device would have the same issue.

i'm not a bes server. A representative from RIM has told me that he saw this happen about 6 months ago. The rep said it may be a worm. The device may have been breached through the blue tooth or wifi according to the rep but the device has always had these network settings off. I'm not sure how its happening. This is defiently criminal harrasment.

On a new handheld (you said you switched) and it is still happening?

You were asked what applications are currently installed, and you did not answer, just referred to the logs. There is a reason it was asked what applications are on the device.

Applications require user input to install (you have to click it to tell it to install) so im suspecting an app. If it was present on both devices, i also suspect the switch device wizard was used.

We arent getting the full story here

terribably sorry for not giving the whole story. I only put on software developed by a company called Smobile Systems in responce to this problem. The software is supposed to be antivirus, malware and anti-identity theft software. Before then the only software present was the software that came with the unit. I reinstalled the operating system on the pearl but I was syncing it with outlook on my computer. When the second device 9700 was purchased I did not connect it with any computer or load any software until the problem occured and I was instructed to send logs by RIM. After getting the 9700 the problem reoccured within 2 days and in that time it did not leave my sight. Other than this I have involved police because of stalking, threatening mesages, my computer was hacked, and I experienced a break and enter on my resident etc. I'm not sure what else to provide in terms of the full story. If you have any pointed questions please do ask so that I might forulate an appropriate responce.

With a pristine device with no software installed, there is only but a few possiblilites....

1. Someone inside rim is stalking you
2. Someone at your carrier is stalking you.
3. You need a bigger tinfoil hat.

The reason everyone everywhere says your story is BS is because its pretty far fetched.

New device. No email attached to it. Data not enabled, but somehow, magically, someone is controlling your device.

You can't "hack" a BlackBerry. You can install spyware though, or if your phone is left alone it can be installed by them.

I don't know how you could get a worm through your bluetooth or wifi. That doesn't sound like something someone from RIM would say either.

It is possible to get a worm on the media card that can infect your PC when it connectes, just like worms on USB devices. But there is no worm that has ever infected a BlackBerry.

The OP's username does sound quite spammy to me.

To the OP, did you consider that your computer might be hacked or infected with malware that is stealing information? Also your email address is visible on the internet in a few places (not here) but that in itself is risky. Maybe your email account itself was compromised, not your BlackBerry.

I'm not sure about bb's but I know on regular phones software can be initiated by a phone call. Phones can also b activated and accessed over the air. This is not software the general public has access to but it does exist.
