Default Blackberry and Corporate Network

Please Login to Remove!

I have a BlackBerry, but I run Redirector on my PC at work. I have not been added to the BES, yet. I realize that if I send an email from my handheld "using" my desktop account, it will send from my work email address and, with Redirector, will actual send out of my work Exchange account.

However, since I am not on the corporate BES, when I send an email from the handheld and select to use my BWC account, browse the Internet, send PIN messages, etc., I am not using my corporate network for any of that, correct? I do understand if I were to be put on the BES then, yes, all that traffic would go through the corporate network, but not in this case since I am using the Redirector. Is this correct?

Thanks

smbyers:

I have the exact same setup you're using at the moment. I have the redirector running on my PC for my exchange account, and use the BWC as well.

You are correct in your assumptions. Right now nothing is going through your corporate network. Evertyhing goes out through the cell phone network only. When you send a message from your "Desktop" account, it is forwarded to your desktop pc and sent out over the exchange account on your desktop.

Once you're added to the BES, all web surfing and data usage is filtered through your Corporate Network. The BES actually loads the webpage you're visiting for you and forwards the info to your blackberry. This means that your corporation can track your usage and block whatever it wants.
