Lightbulb OS X and BlackBerry Sync

Please Login to Remove!

Just got a Pearl, use OS X 10.4.8, installed PocketMac.

I am not new to syncing as I have been a Treo user for many years, and have syncxxx8217;d other handhelds for even more. I am also an Internet Communications Engineer (Wireless, VoIP, Video, etc) so this should not be too hard, but yet I found it to tax me in time and brainpower, and there's still more work to do.

Please read my blog posting on this, which includes my call for a better software to be built by Mark/Space (Missing Sync) and a link to their request form - please go and fill it out! I have have also submitted this request to BlackBerry and Mark/Space.

Blunt Perspectives » OS X and BlackBerry Sync

I also posted my DETAILED instructions for using PocketMac with my BlackBerry Pearl, given my experience at this point. I would love to get some detailed responses on how to keep the contacts from duplicating, and how to sync multimedia more easily. Other nuances, hints, etc are also greatly appreciated.

Enjoy!

Default Missing Sync - BlackBerry OS X UPDATE!!!

All,

Mark/Space has now updated their website with a xxx8220;Coming Soonxxx8221; for BlackBerry! Please see my post at:

Blunt Perspectives » UPDATE - Missing Sync (OS X) for BlackBerry

And thank you to all of you who filled out the Mark/Space survey for BlackBerry support!!!

***

Separately,

I have been out of town and not able to play with a full Sync via PocketMac.

I will be doing more research and will post asap when I have found the answer. For now, I am just overwriting the Pearlxxx8217;s contacts/calendar on each sync (annoying).

I might just wait for Missing Sync to come out - worth every penny.

And after that, Ixxx8217;m waiting for my Apple iPhone for me and my wife! :-D

You already have a thread open for this topic. Please don't clutter the forums with multiple threads on the same issue. Thanks.

Exclamation PocketMac Blows, Missing Sync Rocks, Blunt Perspectives Links Updated

I received an email response from Mark/Space and they were unwilling to be more specific about the date of release for the Missing Sync for BlackBerry. Sometime Q1 2007

Unhappy Media Files

I have been ableto synch contacts using pocketmac with the pearl, however, I can't seem to find a way to load files. I am not sure if I messed something up during installation. I am running OSx on my Macbbok, and version 4.2.0.64 on the pearl. Any help is appreciated.

Monica,

You need to do that via MASS STORAGE mode in the phone. PocketMac is not powerful like MissingSync (will be) to sync files automatically.

See my blog entry on syncing, at the bottom of the post is how to use MASS STORAGE mode.

I hope this helps.

Angry Still having problems

Thank you for answering my post. I followed your directions to the T, hoever, when I get to the:

OPEN POCKETMAC
Open the software and go to the HELP menu and select the Setup Wizard. Go through the setup stuff.

I don't have that option?

I have online tech support and system report under the Help menu. Also, I never show the Blackberry connected in the finder window?

Should I uninstall and start over?

Thanks in advance!

I have never had so many issues synching. I am thinking of going back to my Tmobile MDA.

Monica_29, I found that charging up Perl is a best cure for sync problems. Charge it up for few hours (so it shows 100% battery), open up PocketMac, connect BlackBerry to your Mac and let the sync go. This has been suggested to me by PocketMac support and so far the only thing that made sync possible.

Default Thanks

Thanks very much for your help.

The key, for me at least, seemed to be the "reboot the phone" step!

Hopefully BB will upgrade or change their software soon.

You need to follow the MASS STORAGE directions at the *bottom* of the post at Blunt Perspectives.com It has nothing to do with PocketMac or syncing your phone to move files over (like data, music, pics, etc).

http://bluntperspectives.com/2007/01...ackberry-sync/

Such as:

MASS STORAGE MODE (for music/iTunes, photos/iPhoto, Videos, multimedia and files)
When you plug the device into your computer, it asks if you want it to be in “Mass Storage” mode. This allows your computer to “mount” the phone’s extra memory it much like a CD or storage card. You can then use the finder to browse files on the device, move files to/from the device.

Of course, if you downloaded music, made videos or took pictures on your phone you’ll want to pull these off the device and import into the appropriate program or drag-n-drop into the right folder. BUT if you’d like to put music or photos onto the phone, it’s a little more cumbersome.

In iPhoto (not iTunes) you can highlight the items you want to export, and use the EXPORT item in the menu. In iPhoto6 export is under FILE, in iPhoto5 it’s under EDIT (I believe).

iTunes requires you to essentially “Show in Finder” every song you want to move, then drag-n-drop into the music folder on the BlackBerry while holding OPTION key (envoking COPY command, otherwise you’ll move the file.

EJECT MASS STORAGE
Remember to EJECT (right-click eject in finder or desktop) prior to disconnecting. It’s the safe way to make sure no data is damaged and neither device freaks out.

MASS STORAGE NOTES
Unlike when you sync, you do not need to reboot the phone in order to get storage mode to work in my experience thus far. Just plug it in and click YES on the screen when it prompts.

Default Mass Storage

Hi Scott,
Thanks for the response. I never got the mass storage alert during setup. Is there a way to do it after the fact, or do I have to start over? It never prompts me. I don't get the eject button either to disconnect the pearl.

Unless you turned it off in preferences (i dont know where on the phone), MASS STORAGE should appear on your phone screen every time you plug it into the USB on your computer.

Default Mass Storage

Could it have to do with the fact that I don't have a sd card installed? Ordered one, but it hasn't gotten here :(

Under options,Advance options, Media Card, it shows:
Media card support: on
Encryption mode: none
Mass Storage mode support: On
Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode when Connected : Prompt
