Question Rumored AT&T javelin to be...

Please Login to Remove!

Do you think the rumored AT&T javelin will be 3G? For me, it seems like a no-brainer since AT&T is the 3G leader (right?).

The 8900 was never designed as 3G. It has nothing to do with ATT.

If that is the case then does it really make sense for ATT to ever offer the 8900 since ATT is moving to the 3G network?

You have a point actually. I've wondered if they will move toward releasing it at all. Rumor has it their EDGE network is pretty close to capcity at times. That being said there are still a lot of folks (me) that don't live in a 3g area for ATT. When I was considering a Bold I wanted a Rogers model where you could turn 3g off if you want and save battery.

I think it will probably be there last BB EDGE release! All it is to them is a replacement for the current curve.

AT&T 3G coverage in rural America is non-existent. by the time I get 3G coverage with AT&T, 7G will be out in urban areas.

Even if they were gonna come out with a 3G BB, who cares? 3G is over rated. I've used 3G phones and they aren't that much faster than edge, and they certainly aren't very reliable. They also drain battery. Wi-fi and Edge on my 8900 are more than enough to suit my needs.

Supposedly the first 8900 AT&T releases will not be 3G. A revision 2 will come out 6 months or so later and have 3G. I heard the speed of the 8900 explained as the device opening up 8 data pipelines vs. the 2 used on the Bold. Many tasks are faster on the 8900 and EDGE than on the Bold with 3G.

The delays in getting their Bold out are fresh in AT&T's minds and they're determined not to repeat that fiasco! They're going to push out the plain vanilla 8900 everyone else has released, then fool with a 3G version after.

I have a Bold currently and while 3G is faster, my battery life BLOWS!!! For what I need Edge will be plenty. So I ordered an unlock 8900 curve, should get it tomorrow.

I'm thinking of auditioning an 8900 unlocked myself. Contrast and compare vs. the Bold.

Using the 8900 for a day the difference in battery life is already noticeable. The OS is identical to the Bold OS. The edge internet is not that much slower then the 3G I was getting with my bold.

And did I tell you my battery life is AWESOME!!!! Now I won't have to charge my phone every other day.

The OS is not identical to the Bold OS.

Similar, but not identical. As a matter of fact the OS on the Bold is 4.6.0.xxx and the Javelin is 4.6.1.xxx

I remembered reading somewhere on the forum that the Blackberry 8900 is rumored to come to ATT mid March, other than that, I have not heard much about it. Does anybody know for sure if the 8900 will be coming to ATT?

Oh, it's coming all right. It's been spotted in the wild running AT&T firmware. Until AT&T gives an official announcement it's still all speculation and guesswork though. It could be delayed for any number of reasons, but it will arrive eventually. I also heard mid-March, but that's not from any official AT&T source.
