I've never had success on handoff from UMA->Edge. On my 8900 or my 8120

My 8320 did this when I first bought it. I had to get it replaced, the new one has done it about 3 times in 2 years.

I will always drop calls if I'm leaving UMA for EDGE and the EDGE coverage is only one or two bars. Seems to work quite a bit better in areas where EDGE signal is strong.

All I know is on UMA my phone quality is horrible.

My phone worked great for 2 weeks and then started acting up. The transition between UMA and edge, to edge and UMA worked perfect. Now the call is lost and I'm stuck wondering why? UMA is awesome when it works, hands down!

I'm not even leaving my house. My desk is about 5 feet from my Cisco 1231 AP, and while I'm on a call, there is almost always some kind of hiccup that forces the phone into EDGE, and then quickly back on UMA. But, the call drops. So Now I'm getting into the habit of turning off wifi before long and/or important calls.

I'm wondering what the hiccups could be. I'm going to turn on logging on my AP and see why my sessions are ending. I don't have issues like this with other WiFi clients at home...

Try

Manage Connections ---> Wi-Fi Options ---> highlight connection, menu key, edit. Place a check mark in Allow inter-access point handover.

and i think it says to call tmobile to set up your 911 home of residence address may also help.

Also, ensure you do NOT have load balancing enabled on your router (the 802.11e multimedia kind). I disabled that on my Linksys and have perfect audio on UMA now.

I have the same problems and also have to turn off UMA so that I don't risk dropping an important call.

But if you do this doesn't that prevent you from using WiFi for data? Can UMA be turned off and still use WiFi everything else?

The setting will still allow Wi-Fi for data. It just makes it so that calls aren't going over UMA.

Thank you, I had just discovered this through more searching. Now that I figured out how to install opera mini I now have to figure out how to setup my multiple email accounts.

The biggest thing I miss about my iphone is being notified that I have email without having to have my computer near me. The 8900 is a much better phone/PDA then the iphone but the iphone is a better overall device. I am now to a point where I prefer the 8900 because the phone/PDA part is the more important part for me. If I can get WiFi email working as well as on the iphone then I will be very happy with my 8900.

UMA just isn't working well for me. Good signal but poor voice quality. I think it's because I have DSL lite which is fine for T-Mobile's VOIP @home service but I think that adding UMA on top of @home is too much for my slower internet. It's a cost issue. Lite is $20 but the next higher speed doubles the price so I am sticking with DSL lite.

I decided to get a repeater to give me good cell reception in my home instead of messing with UMA. It's a one time cost and allows me to take the good signal outside and bring it inside. For my situation the cell works much better then UMA.

Do you not get e-mails on your BlackBerry device? Are you not using a BlackBerry data plan? If this is the case, there are some third-party applications that allow you to get mail via Wi-Fi. Once such application is tiggit mail: tiggit mail POP3 and IMAP client for BlackBerry

The main reason for giving up my iphone was to reduce expenses. I have to have a phone with PDA functions since I have almost 400 contacts that I need to keep with me. By switching to T-mobile I was able to get what I had to have without spending extra for a data plan that I can get by without.

By switching almost all of my communication services over to T-mobile I am going to save about $55 a month after paying for the switch. $30 of that was being able to drop the mandatory iphone data plan.

Now I'm just trying to get back as much of the iphone functions that I can with my 8900 without increasing my monthly costs. WiFi email is the last big thing that I want to get back.

The more I learn about this 8900 the more I like it. As a matter of fact, getting the repeater would allow me to go back to an iphone (unlocked) and I'm strongly leaning towards sticking with the 8900. Never thought I'd say that!
