Please Login to Remove!

hey guys,
need some advice.
buddy got an unlocked 8700g for his cingular service.
he has the bb data plan but he is experiencing intermittent
data coverage.
i instructed him to input the correct TCP settings:
wap.cingular
[email address]
cingular1

i also instructed him to have the service books resent to him.
is there anything else he can do to help with his dilemma?
thanks guys.

I don't think intermittent data coverage will be fixed by adjusting any settings. It's most likely either a carrier issue or a defective device.

Wiping the device (ideally via javaloader) and reloading or pulling the battery might help.

Yeah have him call Cingular to see about data coverage in the area. It almost sounds as if maybe his radio is going bad on the device.

thanks guys.
any other opinions would be appreciated.

i just pin'd him and told him to try taking the battery out first.
then wipe the device.
when you mean wipe the device via javaloader, you mean the desktop manager right???

The access point name (APN) must be in lowercase letters.
The username must be in capital letters.
The password must be in capital letters.

In effect, you'll have this when you're done:

APN: wap.cingular
Username: [email address]
Password: CINGULAR1

When I used a 7290 with Cingular, I had problems in my house (which is my office when I'm not on the road) with the device not holding onto the GPRS signal, and switching to GSM only. I had 3-4 bars, but no GPRS. It sucked. It'd stick to GSM for some time then all of a sudden get a flood of e-mails when it re-attached to GPRS. I finally cancelled Cingular and went back to T-Mobile. :p

No problem. In that case, I would definitely check the coverage area (really, that should be the first step). It could be a ton of different things (faulty handset, etc.), but I don't think it totally likely. However, unfortunately, Cingular cannot guarantee full-on support or functionality for unlocked handsets.

I have an 8700g on the cingular network and use all sorts of tools. The WAP address listed in this post is current and correct. I rarely have a problem using the network. There are times you have full bar for calling service and not have internet I believe that is because there are two types of signals our phones are receiving. Dont quote me on it though.
