Hey,

I'm going to France, Bulgaria and Greece for 10 days.

The cheapest data roaming plan Rogers has is 50$ for 10... TEN... MB... of data... my regular data plan is SIX GIGABYTES!

Basically, i NEED bbm, and I would really like to have Facebook so I can update family and stuff about my trip...

is 10 MB enough for BBM (which I plan on using a lot) and to use the Facebook app on my Torch?

actually wait - Rogers' website says "With 1 MB you can send/receive 514 emails (text only) from a BlackBerry® Boldxxx8482;"

So... would 10 MG be enough? I just want to be able to use BBM and FB when EVER i want without having to worry about data.

How do you expect anyone to know what is enough for you?

You have a 6GB plan now. How much do you routinely use every month? Do you think 10MB will be enough?

FaceBook can be tricky if you don't make sure to completely disconnect from it as it loves to run in the background looking for updates and messages, using data the whole time.

Your other option is to call Rogers and have them disassociate your PIN from your current BlackBerry data plan (but not cancel the plan). Then you can get an Orange pre-paid SIM with pre-paid BlackBerry data when you get there.

It's important that your BlackBerry be unlocked (able to use the Orange SIM card) and disassociated with your Rogers plan (to let you use the Orange plan). BlackBerrys can only be associated with one data plan at a time. So if you're still tied to Rogers you cannot use Orange's pre-paid data.

If you're going to be in a location with Wifi, 10MB is more than enough.


What I like to do is turn data off completely for the entire trip except when I'm at my hotel. Turn on data, turn on Wifi (to establish the BIS connection via Wifi) and do my deed.


Sometimes BIS won't automatically connect using Wifi (if it's not initiated trough my my carrier's roaming partner data connectioN) -- don't know why this happens. It's happened several times with various devices.
