I'm new to this forum and have had the Bold 9700 for 12 months now and think it's the bee knees for messaging. I'm of the older school so not interested in fancy gizmos like iphones have. I much prefer being able to buy spare batteries and have those that are installed last longer than a day, which mine does. However, lately I have started backing up the content and really would like a bit more information on back ups. I can get it to back up the device content on to my lap top.
My question is - How do I read the back up. Is it the case that once data (messages emails texts photos videos etc) is backed up it can be read separately from the device and am I able to print off from my computer. If it's not possible to do things like this then a back up seems pretty pointless or am I missing something.
The backup file is designed to be restored to another BlackBerry handheld.
I'd hardly call it pointless... but I guess everyone has their opinion.
There may be a utility for your Windows PC to read the .ipd backup file. Try searching this forum, or Google, for 'ipd reader' and you may find some third party software to do what you're looking to do.

Check out the free PC app MagicBerry from Menastep. Does just you want.
Thanks to Penguin3107 Thanks for responding. My apologies, perhaps I should have said I'm preparing documents for possible production in court and backing up to another BB wouldn't have helped. This must be of use when I upgrade to a new BB. 9900 is a what I fancy.
Thanks to JSanders I've just downloaded Magicberry and that's exactly what I need. Thanks very much.
