3G iphone suffering from same signal and reception problems as original

This was one of the main reasons I left the iphone. Signal strengths from 4 bars to 0 bars without even moving the phone. It was very frustration.

Man that is tough. I know how excited I am to get the Bold, and I am sure that compares to the iPhone 2 owners leading up to the purchase. To get the device home and have issues with the 3G connection (a huge reason people bought it), would be upsetting.
I only hope this is limited to the device and its software, and has nothing to do with the carrier's network ( I am sure this is the case ).

I haven't experienced those problems. Switching between 3G and EDGE has been seemless. Of course, most of the time I have 3G disabled in order to improve battery life.

iPhone's out there and an easy target. Let's see if RIM really does any better with 3G signal and realistic battery life.

Could you imagine the outrage if RIM published an article on how to extend Bold battery life, suggesting that you:
- turn off 3G
- turn off WiFi
- turn off GPS
- turn off Push
- check fewer e-mail accounts.
That's precisely what Apple has done, but apparently it is OK, because, you know, Apple said so.
iPhone battery life is abysmal. Oh, by the way, all your old chargers? They may no longer work. Sorry.

I have been using a iPhone 3G for a couple days, about the same as I use my Curve, and the battery life SUCKS. Even with 3G off, WiFi off, etc it's still not good. Turning off Push is not an option.
Also, as NJ said, none of my old iPod devices will charge it. Not an iHome, not a car charger, not even a wall charger. I gotta say, other than the internet aspect of this, I prefer my blackberry.

The browser and iPod capabilities are superb. In other words, the stuff that's in the iPod Touch are excellent.
Careful bakerfall, don't let the Apple-istas hear you. Turning off push is apparently a good idea. Who needs real time e-mail anyway?

Wait! Wait! Wait! Are you telling me that the feature that Apple has stated makes the iPhone 3G as good at handling email as any other phone, is a feature they recommend you turn off? What's next, will they tell people to turn off their 3G radio? Oh wait...

Are you suggesting that Apple fans have lost their objectivity and simply follow their Apple-leaders?
Stunning, I say.

My comment was based solely on my personal experience of my own objectivity (or lack thereof). And I own 3 Mac workstations, and several miscellaneous other Apple products.

Yep, same as the first generation iPhones! I've had no fewer than 4 separate experiences, where I was with a colleague, both of us on AT&T. He/she was using a first generation iPhone, I had my BB 8310. I had totally solid reception and was using my phone, while they were unable to make calls. On two of the occasions I actually loaned them my BlackBerry so they could place an important phone call they were unable to make on their iPhone.
Admittedly, the iPhone is absolutely world class with certain capabilities, like web browsing and multimedia player. I really think objectively, here's the deal:
- Multimedia player: iPhone - A, BB - C-
- Internet browsing: iPhone - A, BB - C
- Push email: iPhone - D, BB - A
- Basic cell phone: iPhone - C-, BB - A
So, the question is, what do you use your cell phone/PDA for? Here's my priority list:
- Phone
- Push email
- Web browsing
- Multimedia player
Makes the choice pretty simple, for me at least.

I have not seen any official claim that it fixes the reception. Only comments from people who have updated claiming (sometimes wrongly) that it had corrected the reception.
I for one have had the v1 and have never had poor reception.
Would be nice if they give more details other than "Bug Fixes" for the 294mb update.
