How to tell if BES box is working okay?
Please Login to Remove!
What are some things that I can check to verify that the BES box is functioning properly? Well, I know you need to make sure all BES services are up running, SRP is able to connect to RIM and what else?

Someone I'm sure will correct me but you can monitor it using the BB Manager utility that comes with the BES software.
I hope that is what you meant.

Simple.
1/ Check that all BlackBerry related NT services are started.
2/ Use BBSRPTEST.EXE

The Blackberry Monitoring Service which is inlcuded with SP5 and up can give you some rough monitoring of the BES. It can also email you if the SRP disconnects, etc.
The install file is in the folder called "Blackberry Monitoring Service" which is located in the SP5 main directory.

Not in my world.
BES was offline for 8 hours and no one complained.
good test to do:
Send email to an online running activated user with <confirm> in the subject line
If it does not come back then it never got to the phone and BES might have an issue.

If the subject line is:
<$RemoveOnDelivery,Confirm>
the end user isn't even aware you have pinged his BB.
Oh, and it works from any email account you can receive mail. Just tested it from my gmail account to my BB, well simulator but the end result is the same and there is no sign of it in my mail box.

Just tried <$RemoveOnDelivery,Confirm> in subject line. However, the recipient received the email on the BB. Did I do something wrong?

Not that I am aware of, it has never prompted my users to ring me not that I use it that much. Unless this is another of those Exchange vs Domino differences I am unaware of.

It works now. I must did something stupid. It's cool that the message gets deleted in the user mailbox; however, it would be good if the BB device can delete it too.

It has to be at the beginning of the Subject line.

That would explain why i haven't had the issue, i have a blank stationery email saved which i use if/when i need to test. Just add the addressee and send.

This is what I do since we don't have the budget for Boxtone / Zenprise:
BES Alerts set to critical - tracking of when services stop / restart - you also get when users are added / deleted / activated though.
MessageConfirm Service - I have this running on a box and I get a test email every 15 mins. If 30 mins and no email is recieved I get a failure email and can look into things.
I've found the monitor service worthless and have it running just to capture statistics of the BES(s) CPU / Memeory / message volume etc. Once they have some good baseline thresholds that I can enter and track it will be worth more.
We also have MOM and typical enterprise monitoring tools our data center uses.

Are these services built-in in BES? I'm on 4.1.2, which is very old. Thats why I'm planning to upgrade to SP6+MR1 to get the latest fixes, enhancements and etc.
It would be good if RIM can come up with BES clustering on windows servers.
