Default need some info about the 8330 vzw

Please Login to Remove!

Can anyone verify if the 8330 vzw exibits the following problems I have with my 8830?

Quiet ringer, laggy track ball response, speakerphone background noise, inability to hangup phone calls with the end call button.

If these problems don't exist, then I'd love to get this phone!

I've heard that the quiet ringer is not an issue on the curve like it is on our 8830's I can't comment on the other things.

The ringer is loud....very loud...even louder than on the Pearl.

I haven't notice any lag on the track ball response yet. It doesn't feel as loose as it does on the Pearl. You still get the "gritty" feel when rolling the trackball as compared to the GSM Pearls.

Haven't tried the speakerphone yet, so don't know if there is any issue with background noise.

Pressing the end call button does hang up the phone.

One thing I did notice was when I first activated the phone and transferred all my stuff over to the Curve from my Pearl yesterday, for the first hour or so after I was done, the OS seemed a bit laggy......when I press the BB key or the trackball or move the trackball, the arrows showing that the phone was accessing data would flash (i.e. the Windows hourglass) and it would take a second or more for the phone to respond. But now it is working fine.

I never had problems with Trackball Lag and the end call button not working on my 8830, perhaps you have a bad one. "Speakerphone does pick up a lot of background noise, and the ringer is quiet though."

Wirelessly posted

I had to adjust the trackball sensitivity on mine, otherwise it felt like I had to press too hard to make it roll. Works great now.

Hi:

I did have to play with the trackball adjustment to my liking, but I have not noticed a lag. No problems at all yet with hanging up with the End Call button. It's one of my favorite things to do.

Ringer volume could certainly be better, but I have found differences in different ringers and my CTU24 ring seems to be fine. Of course I never get that far from my 8830...

The ringer you choose can affect the volume. I mean, if you just scroll through the delivered alerts you'll notice variations in volume.

Sounds like some of these are specific to your 8830 and not the 8830 in general.

I have to disagree takeshi. I had a VZW 8830 as well, and the ringer was not loud and all, and the microphone was WAY sensitive. No matter where i was, people thought i was in a crowded area and could barely hear me cause it picked up any and all background noise.

'why is the TV so loud???!?'

ummm, its not?

There is a site that was mentioned yesterday I signed up and sent myself some ring tones and this site allows you to raise or lower the vol of the ring tone before you even send it to yourself so now I don't have that stupid low vol problem on my 8830 Yay!

Default Ringer volume on 8330

I just got mine a couple of days ago. I love this thing...except for the volume on the ringer. It stinks. I have had alot of missed calls, just because I can't hear it ring. I am taking back to Verizon today and see what they say.

the verizon 8330 definitely needs more RAM and a better processor. if you have jivetalk and other programs running, you definitely experience lag in operating. it's nothing to do with the track ball, it's just that the phone needs more than 32MB of RAM.
that's where the new blackberry bold comes in... haha

Verizon changed me out from the 8830 to the 8330 due to the issues with the phone. Namely the volume otherwise the phone was great I just wanted a camera and was tired of going to vzwpix when people mms messaged me. Overall the curve is a really good phone, I think the speakerphone pales from the 8830 due to the speaker being covered by the battery door instead of coming out the top. (ordered a sedio door yesterday) phone seems great as far as processor and memory and I keep viigo, yahoo im and several other programs running while using it for my media player during the day.
