Default Pearl 8120 activation on BES V4.0.xx

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,

I'm experiencing slower than normal activation with the above. I'm using 'Provision Handheld' and it says it's sync'ing the desktop and GPRS signal is good but nothing seems to be happening...

Is it an incompatibility at all?

I'm wondering whether I should do wireless activation as it's working over USB at present.

It's assigned ok to the user, changed the PIN although in BB Manager it still says 'No PIN'

The bb is unlocked and being used on the Vodafone UK network.

Any help at all much appreciated.

Many thanks

There aren't any incompatibility issues ... you might want to get an updated device.xml for any app pushes regardless.

Activations over GPRS will take a lot longer than over EDGE ... I can't remember the last time I did one over GPRS only.

Many thanks hdawg. I've replaced the Device.xml file with the one on the link.
I had another go and then it says 'Not Activated'
I have to keep resetting it by taking the battery out and SIM before each attempt as cancelling the activation doesn't seem to work.
It says 'synchronising desktop for about 30 minutes and doesn't seem to go any further each time...

Please can you advise?

stop the press...
It seems to be working, over the air though...
I had to set a password on the account it was for and it is now working...
Took a large number of attempts but looking good so far...

heh, I can't remember the last time I DIDN'T use GPRS!
EDGE is only just being introduced into the UK and mainly on o2, they have to roll it out to support the iPhones (only UK carrier).

Sorry I've only seen this thread - the only way of getting a 8120 to work on a 4.0 BES is via OTA activation

Cabled activation wont work as the BES doesn't have the latest USB drivers to support 4.3 device O/S. Only other option is DM4.3 which is bloatware, or perhaps web desktop if you've got that installed...
