Default Emails arriving after a long time!!

Please Login to Remove!

Hi there
I was looking for some help.

A friend of mine recently purchased a Blackkberry Torch.
Having configured her email settings - it seems, emails are taking a very long time to arrive onto the handset - often taken more than 15 to 20 minutes.

Has anyone any ideas what maybe the cause of this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Using BIS, email typically takes 15 minutes, sometimes less, to arrive after hitting your ISP email server. That is how the BB works.

Does your friend have a moderate to strong signal? Do other RIM services appear to be working - i.e. BBM, browser, etc.?

On BlackBerry Enterprise Service - the corporate solution - it is instant push mail. On BIS, it depends on the e-mail service provider. On many accounts it is NOT instant and can take up to 15 minutes.

Not on BIS. Rim checks your email servers every 15 minutes. If mail is found, then it pushes the mail to your BB and repolls (looks for mail) in 3 minutes. If mail is found again, then that is pushed and another repoll occurs in 2-3 minutes, until no mail is found, and the poll reverts to the 15 minute cycle and starts over.

With some providers such as gmail and yahoo, it can be near real time.

thats interesting info regarding the email intervals. i had no idea its that slow. I always thought it was my 12 year old Bell sympatico email address that slows it all down. Guess not lol. also explains why the email is always on my desktop mail app far sooner then my bb. But it doest explain why my buddies iphone works the opposite where, his iphone gets the mail before his desktop mail app gets it. Interesting. Thanx for the info. Kinda disappointed to be honest. :(

Could it be that it's slow cause BIS is simply old technology?

Actually, I think BIS is pretty good. It works as it is designed to work, with no interaction required of the user except for setting up your accounts initially. I have never needed to have email in real time, and I have been the CEO of two companies and senior VP at two others.

If you need it instantly, you can look into a hosted BES solution from exchangemymail, mailstreet or other similar providers.

You could also use a Gmail or Yahoo account. Those are almost instant. Plus Gmail will let you sync your contacts and calendar wirelessly.

And i don't need it instantly either but i figure since i'm paying 40 a month for data, i might as well have it instantly. Thats just my logic.

$40 a month? What carrier? AT&T and Verizon are only $30 for BIS.

And please add your carrier to your profile.
