Default Only using wifi, no phone or data

I'm going to Europe in a couple days and was wondering how I can use just the wifi function. All I really want to do is check up on my emails without getting charged fees. I did a little reading and came across two things.

1) Under "Manage Connections," turn off the Mobile Network radio.
2) From the options, under "Mobile Network," set data services to "off when roaming"

If I do these, will the phone and data plan be turned off while I'm overseas, leaving just the wifi available?

Yes, IF you have the Options > Advanced > Browser = Hotspot browser, you will be able to use the browser.

You dont need to turn data service to off when roaming if you have turned off the mobile radio.

I should remember to do this the next time I travel. Will other data apps work over the wireless this way (Googletalk, Yahoo! Messenger, Windows Live Messenger, Viigo, etc) if I'm on a BES??

I turned off my phones mobile connection under "manage connections" so the phone part doesnt work. However, I still get emails pushed to my phone when using wireless. Does that mean I'm still running on the BIS and will get charged for the e-mails, or is the e-mail being pushed due to the wireless connection?

wireless you mean wi-fi?
yes wi-fi will connect via BIS and you get emails and it should be free via your wi-fi connection.
