Default Is it possible to setup Exchange without using a Domain?

Please Login to Remove!

Any Ideas

I have a friend at school that wants to setup a BES Express Server for testing purposes (In conjunction with a 7100g that he got off his uncle from the US with a old Cingular Sim) but he doesnt have a domain and doesnt want one so I assume he can't use it.

Thanks

Peter

This is more a Microsoft than a Blackberry question, but I'm thinking not.

Exchange is built to work with Active Directory, and that does require at least an internal (i.e. Microsoft-defined) domain. But even though it's built to work like that, I'm not sure that means it requires one. But even though I'm not sure, I think it does require a domain.

Exchange requires active directories and active directories requires you to input a domain name even if its only local

From the BES you need a MAPI connection (MAPI Profile) to your Exchange server. The Exchange server could be Exchange 5.5, who does not require Active Directory. For Wireless Activation and for mail sending/receiving to external you need also a connection from your Exchange server to the internet and a domain name.

Bob
