Its probably a per-phone type thing. As the poll shows the MAJORITY have no problem but still some have issues

I had the issue with my Verizon 8330 (Brand New), but I suspect it was a corrupted SanDisk 1gb memory card. I grabbed the files off of it and moved them to a newer (larger) card and now I seem to be fine... We shall see.

Default May have "solved" rebooting on 8300

Unlocked 8300 AT&T. A gift. 2 GB Sandisk card. Upgraded to 4.5 (removing vendor.xml). Started the rebooting process. 2 minutes, 5 minutes, didn't matter.

Per advice here and other forums, removed SD card. Disabled Media card in Menu. Did not solve problem. Tried loading different flavors of the 4.5. Suncom did have a 4.2.2.141 Platform 2.4.0.62 for the 8300, but T-Mobile does not have a 4.5 flavor. Does for the 8320 which they sell and support.

Used JL to wipe phone. Used Loader to install the Suncom 4.2 version. Reloaded the ACT! app using CompanionLink and 1400 records into Address Book. Did not reinstall the SD card. Turned off the Media card support in Menu. Have made/received 10 test calls, most over 20 minutes. No disconnects or reboots.

I hope this info helps someone else. I have wasted over 50 hours on this issue.

I am finding it hard to believe that this model BB can not handle being upgraded without the serious problems of the rebooting issue. The reports from other folks on many other forums, different countries of manufacture, different carriers, etc. has really dimmed my enthusiasm for being a BB owner. It would appear this problem is inherent to the 83xx product line.

I now have a piece of equipment that cannot be upgraded and until I replace it will have limited use as only a phone. Afraid to reinstall the SD card as that may cause rebooting once again.

Talking 8300 Reboots Solved!!!!!

After 3 months of suffering, reading, trying everything , this worked for me. 100%.
Try it. PLEASE post here if it worked and even if it didn't.

SETUP

1- Need 4.5 OS on device. I have an unlocked AT&T Curve 8300 with Suncom/TMo SIM. Installed 8300M_PBr4.5.0_rel152_PL2.7.0.90_A4.5.0.110_AT&T.e xe.
If you downgraded to 4.2 or whatever, please reinstall the 4.5 OS.

2- 4.7 DeskTop manager installed.

3- Remove media card.

4- Perform the following steps:
A- Go to a command prompt. Easiest way is to Win-R and then enter the following: (your directories may be slightly different). The important thing is to get to the Research In Motion folder wherever it is.

C:\Documents and Settings\Edward>cd \

C:\>cd c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader>loader.exe /resettofactory

You are now resetting the device to factory settings.

THIS IS NOT THE SAME AS USING JL_Cmdr Wipe Function

YOU HAVE TO DO THIS STEP. THIS IS THE MISSING LINK.

Once the phone reinstalls some factory files (about 2-4 minutes), the phone will now work. You do not have to reinstall the OS or any other file.

Try making some calls to landlines, other cells, etc. After you are pleased with it working, TURN IT OFF NORMALLY. Do not just remove battery with device turned On.

Install Media card. Turn phone back on.

Enjoy.

Once again, please post here if it worked for you. The feedback is very important.

AguilaFan

ps I have now made over 30 calls, received @ 20, took pictures while on a call and the phone has not rebooted once.

Default soon to be an ex-user of BB

I have tried damned near everything to get my BB fixed because of all the rebooting.. I had gotten a replacement, done the wipe and lost all of my contacts, new battery, with 2 phones not just one. I gave up on getting another one and I actually have a LG enV touch coming in the mail. Those who haven't had these issues, figure yourself lucky because it's not uncommon for BB's of all kinds to reboot on their own, if u look on tehe crackberry forums you would see that many people have had this problem. I have the latest OS. The only thing that slowed down the reboots from 20 times a day to 10 was I deleted yahoo I.M. It rebooted more often with that app. I only have 6 extra apps on my phone at the moment in fear of it crashing more often if I add more. I also got a brand new 8gig micro SD card formatted it with my blackberry as well, thought the more memory the better it would act as well. I was wrong. After being frustrated for the last year with no help from verizon except sending a new phone I gave up and switched. Thankfully they gave me a $100 discount for all my issues. The rest of you with issues have more patience than me.. Have fun
