Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 8800:

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.

2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."

3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."

If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

For whatever reason, the actual download page shows a different file size: 85.988 MB.

I doubt there's any difference (maybe it's a metric conversion ), but I just happened to notice that.

This is only for the 8800 and won't install on the 8830.

I upgraded to this new version and everything looks alright. The Chinese display and input is exactly the same as previous version and no problem now. Can't see anything different....

I am trying to upgrade my World Edition 8830 to the 4.5 software as I am having many memory issues and have been advised by many that this will fix my issues. Currently I show 0MB free in my "status" under Device Options. I have not loaded any new software lately and have had my 8830 for almost two years with no problems.

I followed the directions listed in this thread. However, I do not find the 'Loader.exe' in the Apploader Folder. I deleted and downloaded a second time with no success. Just now I find other replies that this does not install to the 8830. What options do I have? Is there a version that will install to the 8830?

This thread is talking about a new OS for the 8800 only. This OS will not work on any other Blackberry.

You are talking about the 8830. There is another thread that talks about OS for the 8830. Please see the 8830 thread. It is a sticky at the top of the forum. That thread is titled Latest 8830 OS: 4.2.2.365/4.2.2.196 (Multilanguage) Sprint.

OS 4.5 has not been released for the 8830 yet.

That's the link for the EastAsian version from ATT. I'm using that and has no problem with Chinese

I d/l this version and am VERY pleased coming from 4.2. The earlier version of 4.5 that I tried caused sync problems going from Goldmine to the 8800 using CompanionLink. This version is has no sync problems.

I do have a problem using BBSmart on the e-mail, but the native e-mail viewing is so much better that I don't really need BBSmart.
