Question BB Bold or 8900 or the Storm?

Please Login to Remove!

Hey everyone, I decided to post this in the BB Bold forum as it's the one I have the most questions about. It's been out in the wild for a while now, and I'm thinking about switching back to the keyboarded phone. I have the BB Storm, love it, but I can't type as proficiently on it, so it's going away (I think). I'm trying to decide if the BB Bold is the phone for me! It's either the Bold or the 8900. I'm opting for the bold because the screen is larger and I'm all about larger screens. The keyboard I've heard is superior to the chicklet feeling Curve 8900 and curve in general (which I also have).

I'd like to ask you guys a few questions about the bold:
  1. I never use Wifi, but will the bold's battery get me through a WHOLE day in 3g? (heavy user. Mp3's, 100 emails, and i'd say 300 sent /received BBM messages)
  2. Will I get through a whole day (24 hours) in 2g mode? With the same usage as above?
  3. Is it a hard phone to break? I mean, I have returned the storm due to it having issues :P.
  4. Is it worth the upgrade? I already have a Curve. What I hate most are LAGS! Writing / receiving messages = lags on the curve. The storm kind of slows down when receiving a message, too. Are there any lags?
  5. Can it fit in my pocket? I don't wear TIGHT jeans, nor are they loose, they're normal.
  6. One thing I've become very used to in 4.7 and I'd like to know is if it exists in 4.6, is the half vibrate feature. You can custom set the profile to do "short vibrate" rather than the typical vibrate. Is that possible? I loved this on the storm for BBM and AIM / MSN kinda stuff.

Thanks y'all in advance :D

I can't really comment on the 8900 since I've never played around with it, but I can say that I love my bold.

In response to your questions:
1) I would imagine yes. I use my bold fairly frequently, and my battery will last me at least 2 days with wifi and 3G constantly on.
2) I believe that when the 3G radio is turned off, the battery life will actually increase. So if you can manage a full day with 3G, 2G will be no problem.
3) I've dropped my phone a couple of times (nothing serious), and I've noticed that the phone is fairly resilient. One thing that I have noticed is that the battery cover is a little looser than it was when it was brand new. I compared this with a friend of mine who has the bold (which he has dropped too) and he says the same thing. Again, nothing serious, but it squeaks a bit now when I type.
4) There are no lags on my phone when I use it. By far one of the best things of the bold, it is very responsive. I tested it against an 8300 (like I said, I haven't used the 8900 yet) and there was no comparison.
5) I will have it in my pocket, and routinely forget that it's there. Considering that I had a RAZR for the past 2 years, I upgraded to a substantially bigger phone and I don't even notice it in my pocket. That says something.
6) Sorry, don't know anything about the vibrate.

This is the vibrate feature. I love this! I now know when I get an IM (1 short) vs an email (2 short) vs an SMS/MMS (medium). I wonder if they'll come out with this for the bold if it's not already out. Is it out?

Boldly go where no man has gone before.....

Tried the Storm for three weeks. I am now loving the Bold. Amazing how the frustration / stress level has diminished since the return of the STORM.

Bold baby
