I get a failed call on occasion, typically if I try to speed-dial IMMEDIATELY after taking the phone out lock. As in, instead of ALT+*+Call, I add the speed-dial to the keystroke.

I'm impatient.

I've had this issue on .167, .216 and .244.

I had to pull the battery to fix it on .167, but the phone survived without a pull on the other ROMs.

I'm in a new 3G area and the 3G isn't up to 100% so I get the flipping between 3G and EDGE which gives me "call failed" as well as data issues. AT&T told me it's the device and I need to exchange it for a new BOLD. When I travel to Strong 3G areas or I'm in Just an EDGE area the phone works great. It's the network in my area. RIM told me that if I could turn off the 3G on my phone it would fix the call failed issue as well as the data issues. I purchased my phone in November when it was only EDGE in my area. Everything worked great up until the 3G was switched on here. AT&T will not help me at all on this other than sending me a replacement BOLD. As much as I love the BOLD and have been very happy with AT&T service this may send me packing?!..

Default Spotty 3g coverage/daring solution

I have never hated ATT so much until I purchased the Bold. I bought the device a few months back and the dropped calls began. I noticed most of the dropped calls occurred when the device switched from 3G to EDGE. Reading the forums, there was speculation that the 3G chip (Qualcomm?) used in the phone is what caused the initial ATT release delays due to issues like this

At first I was rather annoyed at all the replies from the Rodgers customers simply saying to switch the mobile settings to 2G only when ATT's branding does not allow that.

With that said, the only solutions for this problem are:

A. Move to an area with better 3G coverage, the Bay Area, CA does pretty well.

B. DE-BRAND the phone. Ive notice that phrase does not have a very high regard on BlackBerry.com, possibly due to a mildly daunting process and/or questionable legality.

If you have faith in your technical/troubleshooting ability the process is rather straight forward and RESULTS in the 2G/3G option, thus restoring the reliable Blackberry feeling. Not to mention, cutting down on the use of the F*** word in public.

Most, if not all of the information I need was on gsmhosting.com's forums. I was informed I cannot post links until I'm 10 deep.

Again, I am not 100 percent sure of BlackBerry.com's rules on debranding, if there are any, but this is a SOLUTION to a 2g/3g option.

Yes, if you debrand.
But If you read why I put that, someone suggested it as if it is usually possible, which we know AT&T won't allow.

At least 2-3 times a day here. Sometimes while on the interstate even where it should have fantastic coverage.

It's definitely when the device switches from 3G back to 2G. But the 3G signal is frequently very strong and it seems to randomly decide when to switch back. AT&T's 3G network is just not up to standards yet.

Also, upgrading to .247 seemed to help some.

I'd estimate 1 dropped call every 2-3 weeks.

Los Angeles, CA here.

I have a different problem with AT&T. I live in the Detroit area. My city is on the Detroit River across from Windsor, CA. I was in a building right on the river and my phone switched to Rogers. Good coverage, but I get charged for international calls. My son has my old Curve. He works right next t the river, so I expect int'nl calls to be on every bill. AT&T says they can't do anything about it, but they do take off the charges. Just a pain to have to go over the bill w/ a fine-tooth comb and call every month. Anyone else w/ this problem?

Of the people they are having problems, anyone using vymail? I uninstalled that and haven't had an issue since... Wondering if applications in the background that use data a lot can cause an issue.

It's definitely the .167 that was causing problems. I used to have a lot of dropped calls, after upgrading i didnt experience a single call getting failed.

Northern new Jersey. Solid 3G area. 4.6.0.247. Get "Call Failed" about once a week-- often in the middle of a call.

A big thing with mine is that people will call me and it takes them 3 tries just to get through. I checked my voicemail the other day and had SIX messages that I my phone didn't even ring for! =(
