Default All calendar entries changed from my normal calendar to "Device Default"

Please Login to Remove!

Whahappened? I have my .mac email account set as my default account, both for email and calendar entries. Suddenly I noticed none of my calendar entries showing up on my home screen with a Today Plus theme. Curious.

When I opened my calendar they were all there, but had been changed to "Device Default (purple)" from my .mac (green) account. I don't even know where this Device Default came from.

OS: 4.6.0.185
I sync with a Mac, but only rarely, and I haven't done that in months. I'm flummoxed! Has anybody ever seen this behavior? I recall downloading a new theme and deleted it, and I did a Reset Theme Defaults once recently. Could that have been the culprit?

Only way to fix is go into each appointment, and where it says "send using" change that to the calendar you want.

Rambo I had the similar problem twice now with my Bold. The only way I was able to fix my issues was to go to each entry that was duplicated in the "default" calendar and manually delete it. Once this was done, for some reason unknown to me, I would have to go back to Options>Default Settings and change the calendar back from default to Gmail.

Both times I've had this happen I've done a reset, but I have been unable to replicate this problem since. Good luck because it's a pain in the royal backside to delete each of the entries (if you had duplicates).

I changed my appointments manually by creating a duplicate of each, then deleting the "Default Device" one, leaving only my .Mac entries. Then it happened again! I changed devices to my 7105t and back because of another issue (no incoming calls) and when I completed the switch through AT&T's BIS page, I had no service books. I resent them but my normal choice for my default services, my .Mac account, didn't come through. The email account was listed on the BIS page but only 3 of my 4 service books were sent. I deleted/re-added the account on the BIS page, resent my service books yet again, and got my .Mac back. Now I've set it as my default and re-entered a bunch of calendar items (manually, again!).

I can't shake the feeling that I did something stupid like activate one Blackberry but register another through the BIS page, or something bazaar like that. Strange that email came flooding in before even switching my PIN and IMEI. As soon as I put my SIM into the 7105t I got email messages on the device. All this drama and I haven't had a drink in over a decade. Maybe it's time to start again!

I had the same problem as you (again). This time it was just because I changed my email password online & forgot to change it on the BB fast enough. When I validated it again through BIS all my appointments had moved to Device Default. I spent several hours manually duplicating several months of appointments last time this happened. Of course I didn't do an Outlook sync after all the manual changes, so I'm up the creek again. Ugh.

3rd Party apps can't see any of my calendar entries either, so I guess I'm back to duplicate & delete. Who's genius idea was this stupid multiple calendar feature that has no real use anyway?

ARRGHH!

Hey Midnight. I think this only works for BES users. BIS won't let the user change the calendar there.

I just tried it again, and it doesnt work.
I was thinking if you created the an appointment, you can change the "send using", but once created you cant change.
Sorry, my bad.

Midnight,

I wish it was so. There was a glimmer of hope for a second there.

Maybe I'll just switch to Pocket Informant & be done with the built-in PIM databases. Maybe a developer will make a utility to manage the calendar database & find a workaround for this multiple calendar mess.

Sometimes I can't figure out what the RIM coders were trying to do with some of the features in the BlackBerry OS.

I just went through one of these situations myself; where I noticed I had a default calendar along with my designated calendar. I hadn't run into the default calendar issue in the past, although in the distant past I had appointments using the wrong email address (this was resolved by deleting all CICAL's except the address I wanted to use.

In my recent case, I had a specific cause. During my last DM sync, I ended up doing that sync without any service books (DON'T ASK! hehe). In hindsight, this would of course cause my calendar items to go to Default.

The usual fix for the default calendar issue is to delete the device calendar database and then restore from backup. However, I did not notice right away that I had a default calendar issue, so all previous and recurring appointments were using default calendar and all newer appointments were using the correct calendar. To delete the database and restore meant I'd lose the new stuff.

So I selected the default calendar and deleted every appointment until all that remained was my correct calendar stuff. I then hooked the BB up to the PC and re-sync'd, which merged the old appointments and the new appointments back into the single correct calendar.

This all made me wonder though, that if this happened next time, I wonder what the harm would be at leaving everything at default? I realize there is an issue with some Today themes and 3rd party apps, but is that because there is more than one calendar, or is it specifically because it is a default calendar?

Klotar I did what you said you did several times but it keeps putting them back into the default calendar. Any ideas?

Just sync regularily. When your appts switch to "Device Default" just sync (after ensuring your default calendar is re-set to the one you were using) and all your appts will be back.

Agreed-- I'm finding this multiple calendar stuff unnecessary and confusing. And to further complicate the mess, the today themes only display the default email address calendar.

All,

3rd party apps can see all the calendars in BB OS 4.6+ so there's no issue on newer devices. For OS 4.5 (which is the only OS that has the issue), 3rd party apps can see 1 and only 1 calendar and it can be specified in BB Advanced OPtions / Default Services under the calendar entry.

I had the same problem. I sync with Outlook 2003. I backed up my device, deleted all service book entries for CICAL; that only left Device Default in calendar options. I copied my calendar in Outlook (right click, copy). In original calendar, I went to View/Arrange By/Current View/By Catergory. Selected all entries (Control+A), delete. I created one entry in the original calendar (Outlook only syncs original calendar, not copies of it). In Desktop Manager, configured sync to only do Calendar and only TO device, replace all target data. Ran sync again; BB calendar only had one entry created in Outlook.

In Outlook, went to copy calendar, I went to View/Arrange By/Current View/By Catergory. Selected all entries (Control+A), right click, move to folder Calendar (original).

On BB, resend service books. Set Default Services to the Calendar and Email you want.

In DM, reconfigure sync to the way you previously had it, don't forget to check mark all the things you want synced if you turned anything off. When you sync this time, all original calendar items that you moved back to original calendar will be added to BB calendar on the calendar you designated as Default.

Hope this made sense.

Brilliant! That worked perfectly! Thank you so much for posting this up. When I originally deleted all the CICAL entries in my Blackberry it made everything shift over to "Device Default". I wanted all my entries to go back to my original BIS CICAL, but nothing I tried worked. Resending my Service Books without using the method you described split my calendar entries into my Blue BIS calendar and an annoying green Device Default calendar.

Deleting and re-copying my Outlook calendar solved that problem, and now all my entries are in a very neat and orderly blue BIS calendar with no more green Device Default entries.

The above post really needs to be propped majorly, because this is the first full solution I've found to the problem of multiple calendars. Most just tell you to delete all the CICAL entries and rely on your Device Default, rather than moving everything back to your BIS default calendar.

Now to see if reinstalling Facebook (the source of all my original problems) will mess everything up...

I have 5 calendars: Default and one for each of my 4 email IDs defined to the BB.
I have them all setup like I want: one has all the entries and the others have 0 entries.
What's the safest way to get rid of the others? Delete the ICAL entry?
