In theory if the BlackBerry is used strictly as a phone, meaning nothing but the essentials are loaded on the phone, would memory usage ever drop more than a megabyte or two from logs and messages if I never turned the phone off?

I'm asking this because I'm trying to figure out if there's a memory leak somewhere and really do not like the idea of constant reboots and battery pulls to keep all the apps I have on the phone running happy. I want to find the !@#$er and remove it.

This depends on the basic apps included in the BB. Some do use memory. Why are you concerned if the BB works ok and donxxx8217;t use any apps?

I almost never have to reboot my Tour. Less than once a month, if that.

5 apps are constantly running in the background: Phone, BBM, Home Screen, Browser, and Messages. They're bound to use a bit of data, but they should not eat any memory when simply idling.

I mean is it normal for the device to start at 100MB, stay there throughout the night and then suddenly drop like 10MB all of a sudden? This is with some light web browsing through the night and nothing during the morning.

So what seems to put it back at 100mb? do you do a reset? Wondering how the memory goes back up unless your running something you do not know running thats stops.

Using 10 MB of the free memory? That still sounds a bit high, but not unheard of. With web browsing that's devinitely within the realm of possibility.

rambo47 , the OP said he is using the BB at night. Thats why i'm wondering what he's doing to set the memory back to 100mb. Something does not sound right. I agree with you, it cannot just drop on it's own.

I should elaborate more on what I did throughout the night. I would open up the web browser to do some light surfing, nothing too crazy like browsing forums and after that I'd check the free memory. At this point in time it's 100MB and the same in the morning. The device goes through about an hour where the radio is searching for a signal (too lazy to turn it off) and shortly after that memory begins to drop. Only thing that may be running behind the scenes is Google Sync.
