Default detailed memory explanation

Please Login to Remove!

I've been doing a little searching and have not been able to find any clear answers as to what the difference is between application memory and device memory, so I was wondering if someone could please provide some insight. Am I correct in stating that device memory on the Tour 9630 device is 256MB and after the OS is loaded onto the device, whatever is left over is considered Application memory?

While installation of applications and execution of applications bring down the Application memory, where do e-mails, texts and MMS messages go? According to Desktop Manager my MMS is taking up approximately 5MB somewhere on my device. I've removed them on the device through Desktop Manager, however the Application memory reading did not change. Does it require a reboot or something to fully clear that?

Wirelessly posted (White and Nerdy)

Device memory, is the total memory on the device

Application is useable memoby (free file). This app memory is shared for storage from emails and such, as well as apps, pictures, and others. The 9000 had an additional drive which was for music and such... This was considered media memory... Could only store pics and such on that, no apps or anything else.

Not the best explanation, but hope it helps

It depends on the device. 9000 = device memory was 1GB and acted like a memory card. App memory was 128MB, and stored Os, apps, emails, sms, mms, logs, contacts, themes, etc etc.

On the Tour, I believe you have only 256MB device memory. Total. Its in this case, a memory card is recommended to store pics, vids, docs, etc (stuff you want to put on the phone from a pc).
So that the 256Mb can be utilized for OS, apps, email, mms, sms, contacts, logs, themes, etc etc.

A battery pull is a reboot, and yes, will clear up you App free memory.
