There are two Bluetooth keyboards? They're identical hardware...

What makes them different?

Different drivers? My keyboard driver is version 1.4 downloaded straight off Freedom Input's website.

Isn't MyMobileGear just a reseller of the Freedom Input keyboard, or is Freedom Input simply an OEM?

I'm confused....

Mark,

The keyboard that I purchase from My Mobile Gear has a keyboard user manual that says "Xema, Inc." may be its the same keyboard but different driver developers?

I'm just as lost.

I really think both Freedom and Xema, Inc. OEM the keyboard and developed their own drivers and My Mobile Gear is a reseller for Xema, Inc. They have a link for resellers on their web site to contact Xema, Inc.

Why don't you both post pictures of your keyboards and then you'll be able to see if they are the same?

I have seen photos. They are identical.

At the moment, I'm trying to get in touch with the driver programmer of Freedom Keyboard, to resolve some issues, before I publish a review...

no need to post, you can download the user manual from My Mobile Gear's website http://www.mymobilegear.com/support.html. it has pictures and key assignments. I think comparing manuals will give the us the answers we are looking for.

Just did an extensive test on this My Mobile Gear Bluetooth keyboard. What I was looking for was how good did these guys implement the BlackBerry emulation of special function keys and this is what I found.

First off the Text-Editing as I purchase my keyboard mainly for email. This keyboard / driver combo is awesome when it comes to text editing. the ALT + L/R arrows on this keyboard works just like the on BlackBerry. "ALT + L/R keys or similar to ALT + Trackwheel Up/Down". You can move the cursor position from 1 to up to I think 20 characters per second. The cursor really flies depending on what the driver's repeat option is set for. Forget about handling the BlackBerry when writing long emails, you can Open / Select / Cut / Copy / Paste and Send all right from the keys on this keyboard.

DEL / BACKSPACE all work nicely making text editing a breeze. One flaw is that TAB is not implemented. I’m told by the guys at My Mobile Gear this is because BlackBerry did not implement any tab functions. ???

If you need to open another app while in message or any other open application "multitask", simple just FN + (one of the preset keys) and your in. Pressing ESC/Home/Close takes you back to previous open app.

Calculator app - to use the calculator I suggest using the 10 key pad on this keyboard. FN + CAPS I believe are the key combo. Once you’re in numlock mode 10 key pad is accessible. Takes some learning moving around the calculator but its do able.

Memo pad – the same as above. This keyboard emulated the BlackBerry so closely that keyboard works the same in any of the PIM applications.

Overall I this keyboard from My Mobile Gear seem to have all the bells and whistles any power user of BlackBerry PIM applications would need. I’m sure it will work nicely with word processors app as well.

Looks like their drivers are much better. I wonder if their drivers will work on the Freedom Input keyboard.

yeah this will tell us if this will tell us if the keyboard internals are indentical or if they were custom made for Xema and Freedom. I would try the Freedom driver but I don't think I would pay $19.00 or whatever it cost for the drivers when its having issues as you mentioned. Well unless they gave me some kind of credit for other hardware or software then I might consider.

The drivers should work, but you will need a separate licence key for the XEMA drivers. I installed the XEMA drivers on my BB, but could not connect to my keyboard and I think this is due to the missing license key. Does anybody know where to buy a license key for the XEMA drivers?

I'll send my contact at My Mobile Gear an email about purchasing the BlackBerry driver. I’d give you all his email but I don’t think that would be the right thing to do. Specially with the possible spam emails he might get. If you’re serious about getting the Xema driver, maybe you can ask the same question from their website or contact Xema direct.

Actually, I really should use the Freedom Keyboard driver. I'm waiting for a response from them -- I'll post soon.

Could you send me his email address via PM? Thanks.

I would like to buy one but would need a cradle for my 7100g to make use of it. Otherwise, how do you type and view the screen at the same time? Also, when using on the 7100 series, does the screen stay lit when linked to the keyboard or not?

mauiboy,

Did you purchase your keyboard direct from MyMobileGear? I went to their web site and it indicated that they weren't set up yet for online purchases.

You do not need a cradle. The keyboard has an integrated stand for your handheld.

I have the Stowaway keyboard for my PPC. I wonder if any of these drivers will work for it and the bb? I doubt it, but maybe?
