You may want to try to upgrade one of the handhelds' OS to one of the latest versions from one of the Asian or European carriers (Bharti, etc), if you have an 8700 to test with.

I'm about to do the upgrade now, so I'll write a reply here shortly. For the most part, aside from installing MDAC 2.8 and the hotfix on the SQL server, there have been little to no issues. I'm not really excited about having to install MSMQ, but whatever - it doesn't require installation media or a reboot, for those that have never installed it.

* Edit: LCS was an option for me on my installation, as was GroupWise and Sametime. Just FYI.
Ok figured a few things out. Yes I'm running bharti on my 8700c but a guy at tsupport said that full support for .wav's didn't make it into this initial release and would be in the first service pack. If you are opening .wav attachments in emails please let me know otherwise.

As far as my LCS. I assume you are running your BES on windows server 2003. I am running mine on windows 2000 advanced server. It seems the MSMQ needed is version 3.0 which is only in XP and server 2003 while windows 2000 has 2.0.. AND you can't install msmq 3.0 on win2k. So I'm going to blow this install away and load up windows server 2003 just so I can get this crap LCS functionality.

LCS has single handedly by a weird chain of events forced me to upgrade all my servers to windows 2003. Today, I hate microsoft.

The 2nd great thing is the synchronisation of permanent deleted items with Exchange. Items you either perma-delete or move to PST files do not stay on the BB any longer (if you have only used wireless sync before like we do).

call TSupport and see if they'll give you the 'irt' FTP password. they *should* have the download available now (although no 4.1 release was available yesterday on there) - the password has been changed in the last day though (although it was not changed for 3 months prior to last week, but they changed it the day 4.0.4 was released and now today).

Download slowdown is because everyone is trying to get it right now. You may just want to wait and try tonight or over the weekend. That is what I'm going to do. No luck on the FTP site either. Already tried that.

Yup. I'm having the same slow/aborted download problem. They need more bandwidth. I'll probably hold off until this weekend.

I'm downloading it and this is taking forever...it's currently going 42k/s. I guess I'll install this in the test environment tomorrow. I'm really looking forward to having the role based administration so I can delegate activation tasks to Help Desk staff.

good luck, It is 453mb and will probably not finish the download. They are overwelmed right now with people downloading the file.

If you can wait until tomorrow, and if no one else has posted any, I just made 40 screenshots that pretty much detail everything (for introductory and training purposes with our support groups). I haven't set up much, such as role-based administration, so this is just a near-bare-bones installation of the server. I'll also install BlackBerry Manager on my laptop tomorrow and grab some screenshots of that. Heck, I might just go all out and write a review/article for the website (not that my posts don't convey that much detail, ever... heh).

I'd post now, but I have to edit some of the 'identifying' information from it, and unfortunately my girlfriend is about to be over here in less than 2 minutes, so...

Jibi, if you add default domain name in the collaboration service then for the sign in name for the users they don't have to add the @domain.com at the end.

Has anyone figured out how to push enterprise messenger wirelessly to devices. I tried setting this up, rather I DID set it up but it isn't being installed. I followed the admin guide pages 36-40 or so.

Our configuration for the multiple domains isn't compatible with that portion. I had to set it up as such:

Sign-in name: [email address]
User name: DOMAIN\username
Password: **********

DOMAIN != domain.com in our case, since our login domain is different than our SIP/SMTP domain. Or something like that. Our resident LCS administrator was the one who helped me, although he's not all that versed on how this is configured. In the event that we were on our former AD domain, then it would work by setting the default domain.

cool. all i have to do now is get it pushed out wireless. I don't want to have to walk around to everyone to install it. In fact some people I can't do that for anyway.
