It requires data - their site says about 30kb per route. And an 800k program. So it's $5.99/mo or $9.99/mo in addition to the data plan.

Yes it requires a data plan. Who is your carrier? The pearl has it's own map program that doesn't cost extra, but you have to have a data plan.

Can anyone tell what dps receiver you are using with your 8700C or 8100 and how it is working? I want to try one too. I have BBMaps and GMaps on my 8700

Check Stinsonddog's Tips in his signature above. He has several GPS devices that work well with a BB.

Couldn't find a bluetooth GPS receiver which I could buy from a store.

It's easier to return things in store.

If someone has can you please let me know.

Cheapest solution found online:
From https://www.seidioonline.com
BLUETOOTH GPS RECEIVER RBT-1000 (SiRF II CHIPSET)
Your Cart Total:
Product Total: $79.95 Shipping/Handling (Express Saver): $23.08 Tax: $0.00

Final Total: $103.03

A 15% restocking charge may be applied if the original heat sealed or shrink wrapped packaging is opened.

Shipping charges & return policy sucks.

Thanks for the info.

But I am paying extra for the Delorme software which I don't need in the Pearl (BBmaps would suffice).

Holux GPSlim 236, 236b or 240 will work perfectly on the Pearl.

I bought the 236 Slim for $79 at Amazon.Com. It has a SIRF III chipset which is more accurate and uses less battery power.

Just bought a GPS nav unit (has LCD & voice directions) for $200 from Staples. Will see how good it is.

The low cost GPS units makes me wonder if using Pearl as a GPS user interface is a good solution.

Links for the unit:
