Question Preventing the installation of software

Please Login to Remove!

People,

I have a question. At our company I've been asked to start the project to handle the order, dispatch and installation of a 30 blackberries for our collegues.

While fiddling with my toy, I quickly noticed that with the use of this site, there is a lot of software that is not delivered standard with the blackberry, but is usefull anyway.

Is there any way to prevent users from downloading and installing non-standard software on their company blackberry? I ask this question in relation to security and copyright issues, amongst others.

Thanks for all your answers!

Vitor

Hi Cohiba,

Yes, we have a BES in our building.

But how do you limit activity? Which option(s) is this that we can set in the profile? And how far can you limit, up to which level?

You have to edit the IT policy on the BES server, and then push it out to all the handhelds.

Ok, but can I deny the upload from my desktop to my blackberry by using the Desktop Manager software and a USB-cable? Because that's how I uploaded all kinds of applications to my blackberry...

YES - through an IT POLICY.
Read up on the IT Policies. Build a test one (do not ever touch the default policy) and play with it.
