What about it?

You will still need a BlackBerry data plan to be activated on BESX.

Ok, I got a workaround... I can access the Exchange Web Access with the web browser through the WIFI connection... but that means I have to be online...

Makes me want to write a program that does what I want, publish it free on the internet just to screw RIM ... If I was 20y old and with a lot of free time I would do it...

Anyway... I'm going to think it over the weekend and probably return it to the stores and buy an European phone that thinks like I do...

While, technically you can use the web browser to access your email, you won't get any notifications of new messages, your mail won't be pushed to you, etc.

Should you try to write a program to try to screw RIM over. I mean it is their fault that you didn't do any research before buying a BlackBerry, right.

Get a nice Windows Mobile device. Apparently they have 90% of the market (per your post #12).

Under European laws, that is called misleading advertisement and is illegal. If you advertise a feature, it must say if it implies further costs.
It's like buying a car that has airbags and later find out that you have to pay extra to use them.

Wirelessly posted (blowin' in the wind)

Cut your losses and move on, Mike. You won't find much sympathy. The answers you needed beforehand are everywhere. I don't think the info published by RIM is misleading or confusing. Yes, there are many who assume too much, thinking the blackberry is like every other PDA they have used, but it is not. As I say, the blackberry is different.

Don't blame RIM. Blame Vodafone for not telling you what you need to get the features you need. Or, even better yet, blame yourself for not researching the device prior to buying it.

Using your analogy, would you buy that car without reading reviews on it?

Your issue is with the store that sold you the BlackBerry. Not with RIM or anyone else. Contact the EU if that will help.

This makes me think of just buying a phone off Ebay and saying, "Well, what's my number?"

To get features and services, you have to subscribe to them.

Firstly I would like to apologise if this thread seems pretty silly. I am having trouble setting up my Blackberry device, mostly with the wifi and email. I have managed to set up the wifi on my phone but it has a white line next to it when I look at the connections. Also, is it possible to set up a new email account specifically for my blackberry? How do I set them up? I haven't been sent any passwords or anything. Should I have been?

Sorry if this seems really petty. Technology is not my strong point.

Thanks in advance for any help people can offer me!

the line next to your wifi, could that be just telling you your wifi is switched on, you need to logon to that wifi signal & then it will show it's name (ie: your own wifi at home, or other wifi operator)

when you have bb service enabled you can enter your own email address(es) & your own passwords into the setup wizard / email setup, after that mail will be sent to your phone. hotmail / windows live now works in blackberry, or you can use gmail or whatever. it also does work related email (i dunno about this as i'm a hotmail user)

first thing is to get the bb service on, which is a small fee compared to the rest of your plan. probably best to register online, & then add things you need. sorry to say that, if you have contract for just calls & text, then just calls & text you will get!... until you update your plan that is.

did o2 not offer you free blackberry service & data with it? not trying to be funny, but if o2 offered you a blackberry on contract then surely the bb plan came with it? you might even find you have it free for a time, maybe you just need to enable it. try registering your phone on o2 & look at exactly what is available to you
