Most two hour movies end up as 350-400MB files

i converted arrested development episodes (20 min each) with super C

the original files were 170MB and the converted .3GP files were 107MB

however ... they were on higher end quality. if you degraded the quality you could get more space

How do you convert/upload a movie to the BB/Media card?

I have several movies on a 2GB micro-card on my Curve. Once you have them as avi files, typically 700MB each, open the Roxio media manager that comes as part of the BB desktop manager, with whatever PC folder you have the movies in at the top, and the micro-card at the bottom. Drag the movie from the top to the bottom, and choose the lowest resolution and file size. (I find the screen is small, and it doesn't make that much difference to me.) You'll find the 700MB movie becomes about 180MB on the card -- so in theory you could get 10 of them on it.

The only problem is, it takes an age for the file to convert and copy, and you can't really use the curve while it's doing it.

Someone on this forum suggested another way to convert the files in advance, on the PC -- so that then you'd only have to copy the file to the card -- but I can't remember the name of the program and I couldn't find it when I went looking.

I use Makayama's software and I currently have 10 episodes of Seinfeld, 5 episodes of Friends and 5 episodes of M*A*S*H and I still have 250 meg free. That's 10 hours, so at least 5 full 2 hour movies on my 2gb card.

Makayama -- is that free, or do you have to buy it? There's some other software that is free, but I can't remember the name of it. I really want something that allows me to convert (and shrink the file size) of an avi or mpg file on my PC -- not have to wait hours while Roxio does it straight onto the device...

No, its not free, I paid $34.95. I tried the free products and found them a little cumbersome. Downloaded the trial version of Makayama (DVD and video to Blackberry - only two clicks needed) and really liked it. I don't buy much software for my BlackBerry, I like the freebies but in this case, this is one piece of software that I'm glad I bought.

Default dvdfab

I use DVDFab, easy and there is a 30 day free trial and then I think it is $30, I also use this program to convert videos to my PSP.

Good program and easy to use.

I also bought this as well and as it does seem a little expensive, it is very simple to use and won't get any simpler. Cayzac, do you notice a small lag of the audio in your videos? It's very little and not too noticeable but I seem to get it almost every time. I am using the better quality option for each one and haven't checked the better sound yet.

Yes, I've noticed that occasionally. My understanding is that this is actually a RIM problem. I had heard that RIM was working on an update to correct audio/video sync. So, hopefully that is true, but like you say its not very noticable and occasionally it "catches up" and everything is fine again.

Seabyrd works great, although I had to convert the Video TS files I ripped to a continuous file before using the software. I have been able to get a full length movie down to 170mb.

Hey cayzac, I just installed the new OS for the Curve and it looks like it fixed the audio/video sync problem. I only tried it on thew few videos I had already on my Curve and noticed that one of my vids that experienced a large amount of syncing problems were gone. You may want to try it out.

Which OS did you install? Did you use the newest, 4.2.2.2.265 from Vodafone? Thanks for the heads up!!

What did you have to do to convert the TS files to a continuous file?

Check out DVDFabPlatinum. You can download a 30-Day Free trial. Convert your file to the generic phone version.
