Question BB Torch 9800 SOS after 5 minutes of startup

Please Login to Remove!

I dropped my BB Torch 9800 down the toilet and I left it in a bag of rice overnight to dry out, in the morning I turned it on and everything was fine, the only thing not working was the trackball but that doesnt bother me. I looked at the signal strength and everything was fine (it was showing GSM with 3 bars and the carrier 'Vodafone UK' was showing). However, after 5 minutes the signal switches to SOS and the carrier does no show up. It stays on SOS for ever unless I reboot and start again but it goes in a loop. How do I stop it from changing to SOS?

Thanks.

Overnight was not anywhere near long enough. Odds are the device is ruined now.

Search the board. You'll have no trouble finding threads on the topic. Also see blackberryfaq.com.

Any other potentially relevant info you should share?

You can try reloading the OS. Do a full backup first. Test before you restore your data and any apps. Who knows, maybe it is a software issue.

Also test your SIM in another phone, or someone else's SIM in your BlackBerry. Perhaps the SIM has gone to chip heaven.

Maybe you'll beat the odds.

I have tested the sim in another phone and
it works perfectlly, also I tested a different
sim in the bb and it is doing the exact same.

Ok. So, have you also tried reinstalling the OS?
