My BB did a WIPE, why?
Please Login to Remove!
Hi,
I wonder if someone can help sort my BB bold 9700...
On Sunday, my inquisitive sister tried figuring out my security password while I was away and she is not familiar with Blackberries at all, so she was unaware of the seriousness of her doings which lead to WIPING out my Blackberry!
It was already wiping when I came to see what the matter is, and I was shocked!
I know she went beyond 10 tries and she said that, it then asked her to type ''blackberry''...
I am new to BB so I didn't know what I was in for...
And now here am I sitting with an empty BB well not completely empty, thank God, but I have lost all my contacts as well as my 'bbm' contacts.
I have my pictures, videos, songs and downloaded applications so why did I lose my emails, sms' and contacts?
It's simply WEIRD!
Why BB has this weird function?
Thanks in advance

Re: My BB did a WIPE, why?
Oh, and before you ask, I didn't back up my blackberry as I am relatively new to this phone, well I just connected it to my pc once.
So will that count?

Re: My BB did a WIPE, why?
Nothing weird at all. The wipe is a very well known security feature of blackberry's. You cannot undo it. It's there to protect you in the event your device is stolen or falls into the wrong hands. If you didn't have a backup then you will have to manually input your contacts.
See page 252 of the user manual titled "Security".

Re: My BB did a WIPE, why?
So I guess the safest way is to not have a security phone lock, isn't it?
Anyway, I learnt a hard lesson!
My dad don't need to worry then, as he hate unlocking and locking each time he needs to use the phone.
Thanks Devnull.

Re: My BB did a WIPE, why?
No, the safest thing is
1 - back up your BlackBerry on a regular basis
2 - use a password on your BlackBerry
3 - don't let anyone you don't trust ever use your BlackBerry
It's not a cell phone. It has built in security.

Re: My BB did a WIPE, why?
because you didn't have it set to also wipe your memory card.
still though, you should always ave your stuff backed up. how do you charge your phone? get in the habit of charging your phone via computer... that way backups are automatic

actually some people could care and to some people they use the Blackberry for that exact feature and being able to take the picture then send it. please be more respectful when posting this kind of thing...

Re: My BB did a WIPE, why?
I would modify NJ's #3 to nobody touches the BlackBerry but you. And don't leave it about unattended just in case the niece or nephew or neighbor kid is visiting and doesn't know rule #3; and put the BlackBerry away someplace when you don't have your eye on it.
And I agree, passwords are smart, for lots of reasons.

Oh, I see, I better check what's checked and what's not.
Will do.
I use the charger as I would for any other cell phone.
Well, I think I should treat it the way I treat my iPod.
Thanks

Yeah, true!
I expected my sister to be mature!
Well, I was sorely disappointed.
She's getting a silent treatment from me that will teach her a good hard lesson for a lifetime as due to her nosey nature I am having to bear the brunt of this crap!
My dad scolded her too!
Well, that's life!
