Default Moving Users to New Server (Same SRP)

Please Login to Remove!

Greetings all--

We got new, upgraded hardware to house our Blackberry system. We're using BES 4.0 with GroupWise 6.5, running on Server 2003.

I built the new server, installed the OS and started installing BES, but I made a mistake in the name. The only choice I seem to have to remove this old name is to rebuild the server from the OS up, which I'd rather avoid unless I have to.

The new server name shows up in the Enterprise Management screen. I have one SQL database (on another server) and only one SRP license.

Is there a way I can drag and drop users from the old server to the new without needing a new SRP? We're only going to have one server, and once the migration is done the old one will be wiped and used elsewhere.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Check out: KB03847

specifically these commands:
Code:
   1.
      Open a command prompt.
   2.
      Type osql -E
   3.
Press ENTER after each of the following commands:

    1> use BESMgmt
    2> update ServerConfig set ServiceName = '<destination_BlackBerry_Enterprise_Server_name>' where Id = 1
    3> go
    1> use BESMgmt
    2> update ServerConfig set MachineName = '<destination_BlackBerry_Enterprise_Server_name>' where Id = 1

Note: '<destination_BlackBerry_Enterprise_Server_name>' is the NetBIOS machine name of the destination server hosting the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

    3> go

    1> quit

Knife-Edge Cutover. Check out the upgrade guides on blackberry.com. You can do it in less than 30 minutes all at once.

Thank you both for the timely information. I'm going to try this tomorrow and will (hopefully) report success.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I got a SQL error during the osql -E stage so I've stopped for now. Everything is still on the old server.

The problem is this:

"Important: During the installation, you will see a screen that asks you for a BlackBerry Enterprise Server name. Ensure that the name is the same as the BlackBerry Enterprise Server name on the previous BlackBerry Enterprise Server. This is information was obtained in Task 1."

I made a mistake in the name when I set up the new server, and despite removing and reinstalling BES (several times) the mistaken name is always there, always grey so I can't correct it.

I guess it's back to rebuild from the OS up. Thanks anyway guys.
