For all who are interested, I am attaching a YouTube video of someone doing a scratch test on a Storm screen. It is worth checking out...

Wow. That certainly puts the mind at ease.

I don't think I need a screen protector.

who knows how sharp those actually are lol...but im sure if you take a serrated edge and scrape hard enough to simulate pocket pressure it'll atleast scratch a bit...

but like i said, who knows...better safe than sorrie...$20 to protect a $500 phone...might as well...

Too much talking in the beginning. But im real glad I saw this. I never really thought the screen needed scratch protection anyways but this just reassured me.

Yes & No... While I agree that if you gave me a knife and challenged me to scratch the screen, it could definitely be done, that video makes is pretty clear that normal day-to-day wear & tear isn't going to have much effect on the screen.

That looked good on the video but it doesn't hold up to what I saw yesterday on my buddy's STORM. His screen was already scratched up a good bit and he just keeps it in his pocket. I would recommend a screen protector.

This is a stupid video as it doesnt loook to be totally true. When he takes the phone out of the PIC on the first one, and then when he does it in front of the camera, he doesnt look to be applying pressure. I am sure the screen will scratch a little...

If the screen is made of uncoated glass, it won't scratch unless you use a carbide or diamond cutter, or expose it to flying sand.
Coated glass (coated with a carbide layer) will resist scratching even by carbide or diamond (it can still be cut by a diamond cutter though).
If it's plastic, just about any metal including brass will scratch it; a coating may help to resist light scratching.
Hope that helps.

I read it is plastic so I would screen protect it right out of the box before any use.

he didn't even apply enough pressure to turn the screen on when he was "scratching".... what he was doing was more like a gentle rubbing...

Folks please don't make a decision as to whether or not to apply a screen protector based on the results of one unsubstantiated demonstration from some "dude" on the Internet you don't even know.

Heck, you don't know that he doesn't have an IS on there!

Default Optical Quality Glass is Superior

It can still scratch but far more scratch resistant than plastic. Very poor decision on RIM's part to cut a corner on the screen. I would ignore this video test as most will have a disaster on their hands within 6 months without a screen protector.

The screen wont turn on unless it's touched by skin and depressed. Don't believe me? Take a pen and press the screen, bet it doesn't turn on.

This is hogwash ... I dropped my storm today and stepped on it by mistake and now I have a very noticeable though small scratch on my screen and on the top by the led light.

This is the first thing I thought about when I dropped it ... I literally said ... I hope that video is true ... it is NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't put a screen protector at your own risk ... the funny this is I just bought a Otter for my Storm and it arrived today ... after I got home from dropping it!!! Go figure???
