With mp4 video files can you just copy and paste them in sd card folder or should you transcode them through dm 6.0 to your device?

Just copy/move to the media card.

The media player in older OS versions would have trouble with some mp4s for some reason, but not others. My experience was with 4.5 and 4.2 on an 8820. So far all mp4 play ok on the 9700, for me.
