Default Data but no calls on unlocked 9300

Please Login to Remove!

Hi
I recently had my 9300 stolen so requested a new SIM from my service provider (VodafoneUK) which I then put in an old phone temporarily and this has been working ok.
I have now managed to get hold of another 9300 from a colleague which was locked to another service provider. I put my SIM card in it and have used unlocks website to unlock it. In the first instance this seems to have worked.
I had a signal (with EDGE, GPRS or 3G symbols), I received an email from blackberry registration so thought all was good. However I am unable to make or receive any calls.
If I go to network connections it says I have a network (VodafoneUK) so it looks like it should work.
However, if I go to Device > Advanced System Settings > Sim Card there is no number in there.

Has anyone got any ideas about how I can fix this.

Many thanks

You might need to call Vodafone and have them walk you through programming your number into the phone. Its supposed to happen automatically, but I've seen plenty of examples where it just doesn't happen. The steps for manual programming are very simple. They'll also give you the correct number for accessing voicemail.

Thanks, I did speak to them this morning but they said they couldn't help and that it must be an issue with the phone. It does seem strange that it recognises the network as it says the service providers name at the top and has signal bars.

Is it possible that it has a corporate IT Policy on it that is preventing calls?

Check the FAQ (BlackBerry FAQ - BlackBerryFAQ) on how to check for and remove an IT Policy.

Mmm, still no luck, have run JL_Cmder's "resettofactory" command to remove ALL IT policies but it still doesn't work.
Anybody got any other ideas?

If you're on a corporate BES and you remove the IT Policy they will simply push it back onto your device.

That's not true at all.
In fact, it's not even possible.

If you rerun Enterprise Activation the policy will most certainly come back down?

Indeed it will, but that requires the end-user to actually do an Enterprise Activation.

There's always been this "myth" floating around here that if you remove the IT policy on a BES-enabled handheld, it will magically get put back on the device by BES. Just trying to dispel that one.

Not sure if theres some confusion here.
The phone I am trying to use is a 9300 that was on a different network to my working SIM card.
I have unlocked the phone from its previous network and put in my working (vodafone) SIM. I get signal bars and a vodafone logo at the top but cannot make calls or send texts.
In mobile netwrok settings it says that I am connected to vodafone but if I go to service status it says that there is no service. The SIM works in other phones.

With current BES and handheld OS, EA starts automatically. So the IT Policy does automatically get resent. I respectfully disagree with you.

Manual removal of the IT Policy requires a device wipe.
After the device is wiped, the automatic EA cannot occur.

I disagree.
I wiped out my BB - totally - last week and installed a new OS. I restored from a backup and EA rerun automatically once I enabled the network.

That's the result of the restore of your backup. The [Desktop] service books were put back on the device and likely kicked off the EA.
Had you not restored, the EA would not occur.

If I may,

KB01889-"My Number - Unknown" appears instead of the user's number on the BlackBerry smartphone 0 1845557699

OK - grant you this one
I will have to try it again sometime (or just restore the messages)!

Hi
Thanks for this, have tried it but still no luck. I'm pretty sure there is nothing wrong with the SIM card as it works fine in another blackberry (the old 8310 that I'm having to use at the moment).

Wow, that's good to know! I bought into the myth that the BES system simply pushed it back to everyone.

More things to try.

KB03448-Network status indicator shows SOS on the BlackBerry smartphone 0 1849079019
