Browsing on my blackberry using wifi
Please Login to Remove!
Hello,
I have a little question. Can I use my BlackBerry Curve 8520 for browsing using just wifi, without gsm card or data plan from my provider?
Thank you.

Re: Browsing on my blackberry using wifi
Not likely. Most carriers now require you to have a BB dataplan which adds the WiFi service book allowing WiFi access.
If you could, you would only have limited Internet surfing capability, i.e. no Facebook, twitter, email, BBM, etc. And you would need Opera Mini installed as the browser.

Re: Browsing on my blackberry using wifi
If the WiFi Service Books are present on the device, you might be able to browse the internet using Opera Mini. If the Service Books are not present, then you will not be able to browse the internet.

I can connect to wifi but browsing is not working if I put Data Services on, then I can browse, if is off the I cant browse.
When the Data Services is on and I connect to wifi the icon is white, if I put the Data Services to off then the icon become gray.

And why facebook, twitter client should not work? they need an internet connection which is wifi, why do I need a data plan for that?

Re: Browsing on my blackberry using wifi
You need to have the data services on to use WiFi. WiFi is data. Since you have no SIM and no cell carrier, then you have no data coming via that route, it all goes via WiFi.
As for Facebook, twitter, email, etc., those require a BB data plan as they go through RIM's servers..

Well, of course. If you turn data off, naturally, you will not be able to access data.
Data must be turned ON. You can select "OFF while roaming" if you wish, although it won't matter for you.
As noted above (multiple times) the Facebook and Twitter applications require an active BlackBerry Data Plan.

Re: Browsing on my blackberry using wifi
If you are connected to WiFi then data will go that way, not via the carrier's data network. But you must leave data services on.

Re: Browsing on my blackberry using wifi
If the data plan is expired, then now you don't have the proper WiFI service books.

Do you have a link or something about how to set the WIFI service books property?

Re: Browsing on my blackberry using wifi
Have you been reading what we have posted? The only way to get the service books is to have a BB dataplan. No BB dataplan, no service books.
Maybe you need another device?
