What does it cost to sell on eBay?
Even at a $2000+ auction, eBay only stands to make about 250 bucks by my calculations with the formula on there, if I'm even doing it right which is iffy given that I don't quite understand said formula. Given the amount of things (such as cars at $10000+) sold every day on eBay, that seems like a mere drop in the bucket overall. I don't think they are trying to shark a huge amount of money out of this. Also, at the bottom of the page you can "Report this item", whatever that may do.
eBay has hidden the IDs of winners for security purposes, I believe, such as the fake phishing emails that are commonly sent out with an eBay header. Or at least, that is my understanding of why it was done, but I could be wrong. That being said, I do understand that it's unfortunate that buyers cannot also be warned by other members, but that really all boils down to "buyer beware" after all.
Even if people are trying to scam the scammer, that's pretty risky considering you only get $200 in protection from PayPal. At this point, the high bidder would be eating the remaining 1800.
