I've had my Blackberry Bold for a week now. The battery life is great when using 3G or Edge but when I connect via Wi-Fi you can watch the bars disappear completely within 4 hours. This just isn't right. Does anyone have a solution?

i'm using OS 190 for couple of days and the battery life has been improved a lot. Now my Bold goes for 2 days without a recharge.

Before 190, i used to charge my Bold every day.

Just came from iPhone 3G to the Bold. Yesterday was my first full day with this BlackBerry. I used the phone HARD all day (over 500 emails, over 1.5 hours of calls, lots of BlackBerry Messenger, SMS, web browsing) and it lasted from 8am until 11pm when I went to bed. The battery indicated was at 20% when I went to bed. I upgraded to the OS to .185 around 2pm in the afternoon yesterday as well.

My iPhone would have died by 1-2pm with that kind of usage. So happy I switched

I haven't read one post where someone said they had deep cycled their battery the first 3-5 times. Whenever I get a new device I make sure to fully charge and then allow to drain down almost down to the battery low indicator before charging it uninterrupted again. I do this the first 3-5 times.

I used to read all of these post with people getting 3-4 days on their BB's battery. The thing is most of those people primarily use their BB for email/SMS. Their phone usages is 10% or even less. I am a HEAVY phone user. My BB is primarily for talking on the phone. I talk 90% of the time, and the rest is email/sms, etc. I am getting 1-2 days on the battery with heavy phone use.

I'm wondering if the key to this is because I'm conditioning the battery first. Even though they say these batteries don't have a memory, I just know I do it every time and it seems to do the trick.

that sounds right, the first couple days the battery was dying fast, barely lasted the full work day. after doing a couple full charges/drains i used it all day friday tons of emails some PIN and about 20 min talk time, and the next day at 4pm the battery is still at 65%.

Good stuff! Yeah, I have BT on 24/7, WiFi 50% of the day, email and text most of the day, talk for hours on the phone, 2-4 hours. All good!

I have BT on all day, I dont use WiFi, Viigo on all day, Text/Email/BBMessanger/Google Talk/searching web....

No no no. The Li-Ion batteries do not need conditioning and as a matter of fact draining constantly is bad for them. That was true for the older batteries, not for the Lithium Ion type.

I work in engineering and understand the difference between Li-Ion and Ni-Cad, but I'm just saying it seems to work when you do it the first few times. A fact is a fact in my case. I've done this with each BB I've owned, and haven't had a problem. I'm just saying, it worked for me. I have no explanation why, just sharing my experience.

how do i make sure applications are closed? i am getting about 6 hours out of my storm at the moment and i have just reduced the screen brightness to see if that makes a difference, i switched through all applications to close them but some like the browser dont close...is this right?

hi mate as an o2 user ive had trouble with my simcard and my Bold. Ive been told its cos the card isnt 3g compatable..do you know anything about this ? I keep getting "SOS only" on my screen.

Possibly a case of the battery gauge being calibrated by your activity.
