Default is the new 9000 video a fake?

BlackBerry Bold video mimics iPhone, except itxxx8217;s fake : Boy Genius Report

If this is true, that's kinda disconcerting. I don't know why RIM would do that.

Gotta love it. I bet this came from Merrit Canada, they are doing alot of the publicity recently. And they are doing the internal training development.

Its fake as in its not really the phone display you see. Well there is good reason for that as you would never be able to film or video an LCD display on a tiny phone and make it look good enough for an advertisement. You may think its lame, but its done all the time.

That is true, but this was done poorly.

iPhone commercials are actually reflected on how it is in real life. CNet did videos on a lot of the commercials to see if they could actually keep up. This BB demo is just horrible, i expect more from RIM. If the 9000 is not ready for a real demo, then DONT do one, it only hurt them

I've only been in the BB world for a little over a year, but does RIM normally botch a release this badly? They're advertising the thing pretty hard, except offering no release date, and what rumors we do have of a release date say it's been pushed back to the end of summer.

I'm still going to wait for the Bold, but this just sucks. The device better be top notch.

I agree....most of the release dates have been pushed back. Everything from RIM has been pushed back in the last year. Not sure what the story is.

I think RIM is enjoying a success that they might not have prepared for.

The hand moving while the phone holds completely still creeps the bejeezus outta me. But the Bold looks pretty spiffy... now if only that were a real video.

This shakes my confidence in RIM's ability to get this thing straightened out and shipped. If they have to use a render for the demo I wonder what the real OS would look like. There are some out in the wild, and they seem to work well from what I've heard, but then why the fake? How hard would it have been to simply so the demo for real?

We've already seen the video done by Kevin over at CrackBerry so we know what the device will do. This was just a lame video, that's all.

Its not that its hard, but like I said in my post above, making a commercial from an actual device screen would be terrible. Just look at any youtube phone review video and tell me how hard it is to read the screen. They want to show the product in a good light. Simulated images are used all the time for computer ads, TV ads, or anything that uses a display. Its simply how it is done.

If the iPhone video isn't real, it sure looks real.

RIM should hire Kevin at Crackberry to do their video. The press fluff did little for me in either direction and I don't get rattled or disappointed over marketing stuff anyways. Kevin showed what is pre-released unit would do and that was all I needed.

Everybody does this and like said above, you can't get a shot of a live screen to look good, THUS, you simulate it! Everybody does this, no big deal.
